Sounds too coincidental. Probably, the mother did it intentionally. She dropped the baby, intending for the letter carrier to catch it. Whatever twisted cry for help it was, she possibly didn't mean to actually harm the baby, just make it look like it was in danger, get in the news, and get some charitable donations for her plight. Or, maybe the mother was trying to kill two birds with one stone - eliminate the baby AND the letter carrier at the same time. Fate? Sounds too coincidental.
