Hm. Maybe its because I’ve worn glasses all my life, but I don’t see people who are nearsighted as being smarter than others. The facial hair on the example above would make me see him as a pervert no matter what glasses he wears.

I wear glasses for driving, TV, and computer use, but generally keep them off the rest of the time. I have found that being a petite female, I am taken more seriously when I have them on. Glasses really do change a person’s look and thus, the perception that people will initially have. It may or may not suggest greater intelligence, but it definitely sends a visual cue that commands more respect because of the stereotypes we are fed through movies and TV. I have learned to play on this over the years.

I love my glasses, but I also love my contacts. It’s strange how just that much on someone’s face can change their entire look. I wish they would do it with real life people instead of cartoons though. They might get some better results. I do love the hard-easy one haha.

Sweet Mummra this is so true! When I don’t wear my glasses I end up looking like a thug because of my goatee and big build. However, when I do wear my glasses I end up looking learned, smart, and geeky. So, that is why I avoid wearing my contact unless I’m playing sports.

I look like a squinty watered down version of myself without the glasses.

The guy in the ad reminds me of Curly Howard. Of course when curly put on glasses they were usually coke bottle lenses.
I think the motto “The clothes make the man” could easily be adapted to “The glasses make the person”.

@joanne: that’s almost exactly what i was going to say about myself! hilarious, right?
my best friend growing up always told me i looked blind and lost without my glasses. i figured out why, too.. when my glasses are off, i end up looking at something other than the person’s face. i can’t make eye contact because i can’t tell if they’re looking back! i also look like a deer in headlights, like i’m almost waiting for my eyes to magically focus and be normal… it’s funny. i feel naked without my glasses! i don’t even know if i’ll ever get lasik either, because i just like wearing plastic on my face.
