@bean- I swear it doesn't. I've tried these. The ice brings the hot tea to equilibrium quickly, and the tea is brewed strongly enough to account for being watered down.

Pouring hot tea into a pitcher of ice typically results in lukewarm, extremely watered down tea. Flash-chilling the tea would require a fire-extinguisher.

Seems like a great idea to me! I can't count the number of times at Thanksgiving dinner that half of the family wanted hot tea and the other half iced.
