Interesting. Such is the power of the internet and media that this mystery will be solved soon, as well as name put to the faces. Will probably turn out to be something harmless

My guess is that it is somehow related to the DHARMA Initiative or the Hanso Foundation.

They seem to have traits associated with fetal alcohol syndrome, but I’m not qualified to make that assumption.

It’s art. We’re constantly doing stuff like that these days, they must have just been ahead of the curve.

If anyone or Alex know one day the answer to this I would be glad if you post it

That made me feel weird and bad and dirty.

Is it possible that the blogger took these photos himself and invented the backstory to gain traffic to his site? I’m an incurable cynic when it comes to these things…

Could they be part of a religious cult….look at how intense and vacuous their stares are.

    Almost as if being hypnotized

I somewhat second dilbart, it smells viral marketing from a mile away.

Maybe the letters are the initials of the women.

Actually, this is an old mystery. I remember reading about this in some newspaper or article (for the love of me I can’t remember) but there was speculation that it was either a set of pictures of dermatological volunteers, some (can’t remember) syndrome (look at the eyes and the nose being prominent similarities), or a set of pictures of mental patients.

Then again it may have been something entirely different like a model shoot for something? Still, this intrigues me alot. I love a good mystery.

Best guess: a high-school prank. Kids get their yearbook shots taken with two letters each on their foreheads: when they appear in the book in alpha order, it spells out something. This could be the first in the string “LO-SE-RB-AB-YS-OW-HY-DO-NT-YO-UK-IL-LM-E?”

I guess the all powerful web hasn’t cracked this one yet- I remembered seeing this a while back on BB, and if you look at the linkbacks these pics have been under scrutiny since 2006.

They reallly look like medical pictures. ‘Nose job’ was my first guess before reading the text, so now I’m betting on psychiatry ward classification.

IT looks like they were used in that stupid eugenics movement that swept across America.

Now I’m going to obssess over what these could be. They do look…odd.

Watch the pictures and read the comments while listening to Jean Michel Jarre’s “Oxygene Part 2″ for that extra creepy effect :P.

Has no one here seen “Carnal Knowledge”? Jonathan has a slide show near the close of the movie where he shows his guests photos of all the women he’s had sex with. I agree with Kaela - they are initials of the women. None of them look terribly pleased about the event, though some of them do look rather … knowing.

I saw this post and got SO excited thinking someone had finally solved the mystery. Alas…

    *sigh*

Like Jen, I was hoping somehow this mystery had been solved. Yes, they’d been around for a few years now. I’ve occasionally checked back to find if the mystery had been solved, but alas, no.

I’d wondered about a hoax. It seems either the markings could be faked or the photos themselves modern creations. If the latter, I give high marks to the hoaxer for making such authentic looking photos. If the former, the photos still seem quite mysterious, even without considering the markings, given some of the subjects seem to be the same person several years apart, the poses, and expressions, etc.

Fascinating. I took these photos and created two more ways of looking at these same 10 pictures. One (http://tinyurl.com/4dysoq)is a little disturbing, but the second (http://tinyurl.com/64zxoc), as we’ve all been taught, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The last two girls are the same person, only in the second picture she looks older. It appears these are some sort of before and after pics.

They are not human. They came from the andromeda galaxy.

The letters are for their national lottery game.

It looks like their initials - Lauren Oswald, Linda O’Reilly, Larissa Olenik… who knows?

This picture is worth 1000 words (or any number divisible by two)
