The Lunchtime Quiz at mental_floss is on American money. How well do you know the faces on your money? I got 11 out of 12 right; I only missed a bill that I’d never seen before. To be honest, there are several I’d never seen before, but I guessed right on some. Link

I can't believe we used to have a one-hundred-thousand-dollar bill. And that it had Woodrow Wilson on it. I did remember who was on the two-dollar bill, though. And I remember what's on the back, the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I get a lot of them in my cash register at work for some reason, so I take them out and spend them for the sake of novelty. I also get a lot of half dollars.

Interesting fact: The one-hundred-thousand-dollar bill was a gold certificate rather than a silver certificate, and was red on the back rather than green. Nothing was on the back but a stylized number 100,000 and the usual fancy engraving, such that I notice has all but disappeared from modern notes.

Even though I'm not american, never been to the states and haven't used US bills (or coins) other than the 50 and 100 I got 10 correct answers (By guessing on two of them). That's pretty good if I can say so myself :-)

I got ten out of twelve. Wow, those last ones really were hard. I couldn't remember the last two for the life of me. I may have seen a picture of them once before in my lifetime.

58%. Not completely awful for a foreigner.

The Wilson $100k was never released to the public, it was only used to facilitate exchanges between branches of the Federal Reserve.

Since the thirties it's all been done by wire, though.

I think the Federal Reserve should bail me out of my ignorance by throwing copious amounts of money at me in a desperate attempt to get me to learn my dead presidents (and other persons of high importance).

No, that was me. I said I only MISSED one question, and it was because I'd never seen the $1000 bill. I haven't seen the other high bills, either, but I guessed them right. You can see them through the pixilation, if you squint hard enough.

Little Miss Musician over here is loving the Beethoven race. Unfortunately, the 5th isn't the most upbeat, speed-inspiring music. I've never been a fan of Bond, but here's a great use for their music-butchering! Finally!

Wow. that comment was totally supposed to be in the race post.

But, so as not to leave this one out, I did horribly. Couldn't get anything over the $50 bill.

10/12 - turns out I didn't know who was on the dime, and am therefore an idiot.

I missed the $5000 bill, just because I REALLY wanted Millard Fillmore to be on it.
