Flying Penguins

(YouTube link)

Film maker and writer Terry Jones discovers a colony of penguins, which are unlike any other penguins in the world. It’s an ad for the BBC iPlayer. -via Arbroath

I knew they could do it! They have been told that they couldn't fly since they day that they were born. But they dreamed it, and it happened! True, CGI was used to make it happen, but they flew! Yippee!

I feel bad for the Russian editor that thought the BBC was trying to trick people into thinking this was real for a April Fool's joke. Its just a creative ad.

To be fair, it IS an ad for the iPlayer, but it IS also specifically for April Fools. On the iPlayer site, the top video featured is the flying penguins, and the next one to the side is the "making of" the April Fools ad. Sadly, you can't watch it on site unless you live in the UK.

I saw this on Discovery HD and it is similar to the ways bee's fly. Their wings are to small to lift their bodies but for some reason it just works.

Digital effects artists always make the shadows too clean, it always gives it away, blur for god's sake! Other than that, I thought the CGI was awesome. Great post.

To lana - penguins do go to beaches. There are several colonies of them in Victoria, Australia, and I have even seen on on Bondi Beach in Sydney once.
