I think I recall correctly that he had nasty legal battles with syndicates from day one. I'm sure that made quitting easy. And from what I've read, he really put an inordinate amount of time (and energy) into C&H. I'm sure he couldn't wait to live a relaxed retired life, with no deadlines, no editors, no syndicates, etc. I do agree that he was in his prime. I hope he's writing at all; pen-and-paper journaling, anything. I hold this guy in the utmost respect, and I hope he knows how beloved he is. This man did more to educate me than public school ever did. A very depressing day in my life was the day I finished the last book.
