First time I saw this ad. The people at Honda’s advertising agency plagiarised Fischli and Weiss’ ‘Der Lauf der Dinge’ of 1987. Just for the record.

I’m not sure I would say that honda plagiarised Fischli and Weiss. They are all copying Rube Goldberg machines.

WOO I love these guys ^_^
I dressed up as a 118 twin for a sponsored walk about three years back! (well there was meant to be another person but they backed off at the last minute…)
They’ve changed the actors who play them recently though, now they just annoy me.
I remember in the “heyday” of 118 everytime you got a teacher tell us to turn to page 118 the lesson would have to stop for a minute while everyone sang the 118 theme… good times.

Easily the best car ad I have ever seen. Although I am a bit skeptical about it not containing any trick photography. It is not real easy to get a tire to roll up hill with only a light impact as the forcing function. :)

    Rube Goldberg would be proud!

The uphill rolling tires are caused by weights at the top of the tire and it’s the most direct ‘rip-off’ of “Der Lauf der Dinge” or in English “The Way Things Go”.

hah! I remember seeing the spoofed Rube Goldberg ad a few years back… before youtube (or at least before it was popular). Went to see what this 118 thing was all about and found some more commercials. Wonder if I still have those around somewhere…

The flashdance thing just blew my mind. Hahaha, I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.

About the vid nr. 1: ever seen those “Pythagora Switch” videos? If not, search for them at youtube. Seems that japanese kiddos are taught very early how to “make things work”.

I’d never heard of these ’sweded’ things until Things White People Like, and now they’re everywhere. What’s bringing that on?

The movie Be Kind, Rewind helped the cause, I’m sure.

The second Honda ad I think they’re spoofing. The first one I think they’re just making a Rube Goldberg machine.

Although we couldn’t condone interrupting lessons to sing the 118 theme Rosi, we’re glad that you all like the ads! We’ve shortly got a new 118118 advert out soon so I hope you all like that one too
