Big Dog Robot, the Early Prototype

By Alex in Science & Tech on Mar 27, 2008 at 11:52 am

Recently, Boston Dynamics released a video of their Big Dog robot. The popular YouTube clip received more than 3 million views.

But it turns out that their earlier prototype was a little bit um, shall we say, strange? LinkThanks Antonio M!

Well, as a big fan of the Metal Gear Solid series of games I have to say this thrills me and makes me question the veracity of creepy walking, bounding, jumping robots that will eventually take over us all.

While it’s awesome what they’ve accomplished so far, that thing is so. damn. creepy.

    That second video was hilarious.

But that’s the first I’ve seen of the bigdog thing, and it’s pretty terrifying. It freaks me out how it regains it’s balance, it looks too organic. Scary.

I guess if you knew about the robot, the second one might be funny, but I clicked on the second link first, and just thought it was some stupid artsy thing.

I think it looks creepy because you can’t tell which part is the front an which part is the back. Add a head on that thing, and people would probably respond a lot better.
