21steps

The 21 Steps by Charles Cumming is a spy thriller told with Google Maps. The protagonist, of course, does a lot of traveling. Link -via Metafilter

That's so weird. I actually know the building it starts on. I had a meeting there and I looked it up on google maps to find the place because I'm from Canada not London. It's not a particularly famous building either. The odds of that happening seem just insane.

How long until somebody does a "Carmen Sandiego" game using Google maps?
    Or is there one already?
    Hang on, I'll google it.

Would be nice if it could incorporate zoom a little more. The tube ride in chapter four is quite tedious at street-level.

Too tedious to go very far in it.

Too tedious? I think it is brilliant! One of the hardest things to imagine for me is the geography behind stories, and this really takes care of that. And if I ever go to the UK, I may actually know which way is up a little more than before.

I agree with WillF - it was a very creative way of telling a story. Got me to read the entire thing, too!
