These yahoos assumed that any given Italian woman is exactly 12 degrees of separation from Sofia Loren?

haha of course the numbers might work out… if you’re just looking for raw population numbers. In practice it’s pretty flawed. but it doesn’t matter, it’s worth watching just for the hilarious announcer.

Personally I find the concept of beauty to be much more than simple physical attractiveness. The woman’s personality, attitude, opinions, beliefs, actions, spirtuality, and much, much more must be taken into account. True beauty comes with that certain spark of vitality and wholesomeness that is missing in more than a few “beautiful” women I have known.
From a stand point of physical attractiveness the film crew could have stopped at the second girl and given her the title. In the end, I guess, it’s the same as art - I know it when I see it.

I agree, the second one was the prettiest. Some of the later ones were pretty ordinary looking.
This is quite an interesting project, but not a very accurate experiment. It’s fun to watch though. -

Girls have pretty friends. So what? Doesn’t mean that they’re going to get prettier and prettier. Dumb experiment; the second girl was the prettiest to me, and some of the others just got progressively less and less pretty.

Yeah, hahahah, it should have been:
1) Find a random woman on the street.
2) Ask that woman to introduce the film crew to a more beautiful friend.
3) She will be the most beautiful woman in Italy. -

2nd definitely! And yes, beauty is subjective.

I bet the first girl was the only one with a soul. These “pretty” women who were “better” than her, probably had the IQ of a turnip and the charm of a rattlesnake.

Lux- Calling all attractive women “dumb” is just as bad as discriminating against less-than-attractive women.

I saw this on TV a couple of months ago, but that time they went to Korea. That experiment failed too as the second to last girl was the prettiest, as far as I can remember

All i have to say is that asian announcer was great, he got so excited hehe. I would do all of them but the last one and 2nd were a little bit better than the rest possibly.

The second one was really pretty.
I’m totally envious of the last one, though. She actually was REALLY pretty, in my opinion.

That host guy began to creep me out very shortly into the video. Something about his reactions hinted at crazed stalker rather than TV professional…

It’s sad that there are so many people saying how creepy and stupid Japanese people are. I’m sure that if Japanese people picked one American tv show and judged our culture on it, the results wouldn’t be so great either.

I wish I knew japanese and had access to all of their crazy shows. They’re always so entertaining and interesting.
As for this, gotta echo whate everyone else said and say the 2nd girl was the prettiest. I think the last girl was pretty as well though.
We went to Italy last year, and let me tell you, alot of the women there put all of the girls in that video to SHAME.
They’re VERY fashion conscious over there and put together very well. Makes us US gals look like total slobs. I could care less though. I happily walked around in my t-shirt and jeans. The one negative though is that it seemed like alot of the Italians that we encountered had a very snotty attitude. I know they’re not all like that, but I guess we just had very bad luck

Funny, there I was watching it and thinking “well, the 2nd one is hard to beat”, and indeed she wasn’t until the end - and then I find tons of people who agree with that in the comments

Yeah, the second one had the cutest smile and looked rather genuine.
hmm…but beauty is so much more than just your physical appearance…..society nowadays has twisted our view on beauty…:( -

i kind of feel sorry for the first one she was probably a very nice woman. What I notice on some of the choices is that the idea of beauty for all the women is very different. What they valued as beautiful showed often in the choices they made.

A better system would probably be: Ask a man for the prettiest girl, and then ask the boyfriend of that girl, or a close male friend, for a prettier girl, etc.
Although pretty in real life is not always pretty on film, and vice versa.
Nr 12 could very well be the prettiest in real life. On film I go for nr 2 also. -

The last girl, I thought, had really little make-up compared to girls 2, 3, and 4 … so beautiful, she is.

The major obvious flaw which caused this to fail miserably is that any woman will think her friend is better looking than she is, even if she really isn’t.

Well it was interesting to see how some of those girls thought that they’re friends were prettier. Because quite a few of those girls were not so attractive.
And what would you do if you had a Japanese man jumping up and down screaming coming towards you with a camera?

This was hilarious. I loved the audience reaction, all the “oohs” and “aahs”! But, what’s the final result? An italian Julia Roberts?! I liked some of the girls in the middle of the stream better.

I guess the problem is that not every woman has a friend prettier than herself. I know I don’t. (Don’t worry, I’m not vain, just unpopular :p)

Number 2 was the prettiest.
I think the main thing we’ve learned here is that either women are poor judges of how attractive their friends are compared to themselves, or that when you ask them to show you their prettiest friend, they lie.

Wow! I’m amazed at how many responders also felt that (going solely by looks) #2 was the prettiest. (I also think that #7 and #6 were pretty close seconds, in that order.) But, as some pointed out, beauty is more complex than mere looks. For me, personality is the most important facet of a person’s beauty. After that are various other things, and physical attractiveness is at the bottom of the list. In fact, although I’m extremely fussy, the women I have found attractive enough to propose to all look very different from each other. Three key features they all have in common are: a pleasant personality, “nerd-level” intelligence, and appreciation of the fine arts. It’s possible that having these features may almost be sufficient for me to find a woman physically attractive as well.
I’ve heard some people denounce those who find personality more important than looks, saying that such people feel this way because they themselves are unattractive. I’ve also noticed that these unkind critics are singularly unattractive to me, both physically and otherwise. However, I find most “supermodel” types to be rather “generic” in appearance (to the point where they look alike to me and could vanish in a crowd to my eye), so maybe the unkind critics fit the criteria for “mass-market pretty.” Or maybe not… which might explain their need to misinterpret the feelings of those who value personality over looks. In all honesty, I can’t tell by looking. But I do feel that the true “ugly that goes to the bone” is a bad personality, and not a physical attribute.
