Yeah, if you look at some more pics, you'll see that it really did deserve the EF2 rating it got. It takes alot to do that much damage. The winds were 135 mph at their highest point. There was one death; his body was found a day or two after the tornado. I live in Polk County where the EF3 tornado hit the next day. The same night as the Atlanta tornado, an EF1 tornado hit Cedartown, GA in the Lake Creek community. I don't think anyone was injured or killed. I was less than a mile away when that tornado touched down; I didn't even find out about it till the next morning.

i was in the georgia dome watching the basket ball game and our car was the only one not damaged in the whole parking lot. we walked through centenial park before the emergency vehicals got there.

I'm glad that the tornado wasn't very severe. It could've been a whole lot worse.

Glad that you guys are okay. I don't usually associate tornados with cities, but according to this page on Wikipedia, there have been many more severe tornados touching down in downtown areas (Like the F5 that hit a few cities in Texas and Nebraska.

Thank you for being concerned. It's neat to log on after a long, awful, surreal day and see that neatorama loves us. There's a lot of broken glass. Billboards and furniture and powerlines in the street. I don't know how CNN is able to broadcast from the middle of that madness. But we'll be fine.

-from a tiny little area in the middle of downtown (fairlie/poplar)that received no damage whatsoever.

I've heard that's the only tornado in RECORDED HISTORY to hit downtown Atlanta. 27 injuries, but fortunately no deaths. GA also got tornadoes elsewhere in the state... we were pretty pummeled.

And yeah, it's actually surprising how LITTLE damage was done, considering the tornado.
