Does not royalty and other heads and somewhat heads of state or representatives of nations have a duty to hold themselves with dignity, culture, and class?

you need to read up on your history… I can think of a *few* UK Royalties in history who were anything BUT “cultural”

Political Correctness is going to be the undoing of a many good nations…

Okay, so sometimes he says the wrong thing. But at least he says something! And yes, he is like someone’s grandad who lived through the war, and who’s opinions are a bit out of date!

The Indian remark - here, in the UK, Indians are known for being very good at electronics - so that was a compliment to a complicated bit of machinery.

Princess Anne - the entire country knows she’s obsessed wth horses. That remark’s right on the money.

The painting - actually, I think that’s quite funny.

So which of these “awful” statements he made are not true or inaccurate? Please tell me, because I like to be informed rather than reactionary.

1. Is there a high level of alcoholism in Scotland?
2. Aren’t some pajama robes similar to Nigerian clothing?
3. Are (red or east) Indians renowned as great technicians? And isn’t it “racist” to call them “red”.
4. Wasn’t the boy described as “chubby”?
5. Smoke alarms ARE a damned nuisance when they go off for no reason, and are KNOWN to fail to wake children and many adults anyway.
6. Loud Music causes hearing damage.
7. Okay I don’t get the potbelly comment.
8.Chinese and Caucasians have different shaped eyes! Oh the shock of it all!
9. Most countries’ problems are caused largely by their own people.
10. He should know.
11. What’s offensive about this? It’s a damn joke people!

Get over yourselves.

Oh grow up and get a grip, people. The freedom to speak one’s mind is a rapidly disappearing freedom in the West, thanks to the Muslims on one side and the prissy-pants PC police on the other. Some of these are a bit suss (suspect). For one thing, there is no way he would use the word “firefighter.” It’s not his vocabulary. And I agree with the first poster. He meant to say “cowboy,” it got mixed up with “Indian.” I’m sure he didn’t mean a native of Injah!

In any case, “Philisms” are NOTHING compared to BUSHISMS!

My God, that guy must have a total vacuum between his ears!

Oh come off it, folks. Those here convinced HRH is some sort of heroic, anti-PC everyman (!) figure who admirably speaks “the truth” as he sees it have completely lost it. He’s not exactly addressing fine points of principle, people — he’s just plain mouthing off. If you’re this quick to assign some awesome moral standing to anyone’s “honest” words, as if that’s some kind of success in itself, no matter how unsophisticated, give your heads a shake. well, the joke about the slitty-eyed students wasn’t one of the best. but, c’mon, about the fat kid, brasilians, indians it’s right to the point.

Thanks for the clarification on proper usage of “cowboy & Indians” in the UK. It’s always “cowboys & Indians” in the USA as well, but I wasn’t sure if that phrase was used in Britain during the Prince’s more formative years. “Red Indian” always cracks me up when I stumble across it in an old British book. I guess once you include cowboys, it’s obvious which Indians are intended.

Of course he has kids. Prince Charles is heir to the throne and *his* sons follow. Charles’s siblings (Andrew, Edward, and Anne) are further down… FWIW, Phillip is a WHOLE lot more entertaining than Prince Charles, who writes coffee table books about his garden that hardly anyone can visit and babbles on kookily about global warming. There’s a reason why E.R. is staying on the throne as long as possible….

keep in mind that royals serve one purpose: to be royals. they don’t exactly go through extensive communications training, nor do they have much more to do than smile and wave. give the guy a break- he has no idea that what he says is offensive, and to him, he’s just being witty. he’ll be dead soon enough, and we can only hope that his kids (does he have any? i’m unfamiliar with what goes on over there.. rumor has it that royals shag like rabbits) don’t behave the same way when they’re 200 years old.
