    What a moron ………

The fuse box one, I have always thought is one of the few instances of Phil The Greek, as he is known over here, making a legitimate mistake rather than just being an ignorant inbred dolt.

In the UK we have a phrase for unqualified and shoddy workmen, we call them COWBOYS.

Thus you have cowboy builders, cowboy electricians and the like.

So it seems a legit mistake to say Indian when you meant cowboy.

Now don’t get me wrong, he is an arse 99% of the time, just this once I don’t think he was.

  • Mindpimp
    March 13th, 2008 at 6:19 am

I would hardly call him a moron, but rather extremely unpolitic, rude and unused to dealing with commoners. I dare say he’s spewed forth many of the things we’ve all been thinking but wouldn’t dare say due to just how damned rude they are.

Wow. The Prince appears to be remarkably self absorbed and to have absolutely no empathy whatsoever. I guess it’s a good thing he is the Queen’s consort. He wouldn’t be able to survive in any world where he wasn’t at the top of the social order.

I think he has a wonderful sense of humor and I think too many opinionated people don’t have any humor at all.

  • Sid Morrison

I’m with Alannah. The Prince is a refreshing throwback to a past time when people could speak what they really thought without the “PC Police” attacking them, suing them for emotional duress, or crushing their careers. Words are words folks.

Pol X — If that is what the Prince had meant, wouldn’t he have said “Red Indian”? Among folks of his generation, I’m pretty sure plain “Indian” meant from the Subcontinent, not an Indigenous American, no? :-)

while it may depend on who it said it to. I think he just has a great sense of humor. loved the last one “Shall we take it back” - that’s funny and shows hes only kiding around.

    March 13th, 2008 at 8:17 am

I’m all against pathetic political correctness and yes, he does speak his mind, but sadly, his mind really doesn’t seem to have anything worthwhile to say, and as far as I’m concerned, Prince Philip is a royal tuss.

Still, funny watching him make an idiot of himself!

  • Geekazoid
    March 13th, 2008 at 8:19 am

Great sense of humor? Refreshing throwback? Folks, the above samples aren’t even all of his offensive statements, some that are not above are even more offensive. I do not find it refreshing or humorous to see a guy like him who is part of monarchy making stupid statements like that. A person in his position is expected to have bearing, respect, and dignity not only for his position and country, but for others too. It comes with the territory.

Ahh, Prince Philip - always one to divide opinions.

    Sid Morrison:
“Pol X — If that is what the Prince had meant, wouldn’t he have said “Red Indian”? Among folks of his generation, I’m pretty sure plain “Indian” meant from the Subcontinent, not an Indigenous American, no? :-)”

It’s always been “Cowboys & Indians” as far as I am aware.

Bless. Americans calling Phil the Greek a moron when the OP is too stupid to know that Elizabeth II is not ‘Queen of England’. She’s Queen of the United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, if you want fullness), and about a dozen other titles, but not Queen of England.

  • Geekazoid
    March 13th, 2008 at 11:31 am

Too bad this guy didn’t crack something witty about the U.S. war on terror, U.S. troops, or the debacle in Iraq.

We’ll then see how many people here find him “refreshing” and “honest” and a good ole’ chum.

    I love this guy.
Political correctness can chew on my left dangler. It’s about time we all grew a backbone and heard what the other person has to say. No matter how shitty it may be, at least you know where you stand.
Or, we can continue being politically correct, have no idea what the other party thinks or feels about the topic at hand, and continue fucking up this world we all want to own.

  • Skipweasel

Not wishing to be seen leaping to his defense, but remember he’s in the public eye all the time - think of all the times he’s managed to bite his tongue and /not/ say something crass!

I think it’s amusing that on a site called “Neatorama” we have prudes that can only come up with woefully dull comments like:
    “What a prick.”
    “What a moron ………”
“remarkably self absorbed and to have absolutely no empathy whatsoever”
“A person in his position is expected to have bearing, respect, and dignity not only for his position and country”
Blah blah blah. You’d think he wasn’t an ex-naval officer with a sense of humour or something. Toughen up.

    Sid,

the phrase has always been “cowboys and indians” in the old days the red prefix was only ever used to differentiate between people from India and native americans.

  • Sofar
    March 13th, 2008 at 6:32 pm

I like him. So, is the Dukes of Hazzard on British television? Because some of the Brits to whom I’ve talked on the Internet have had some strange ideas about the U.S., and that may account for it.

  • Tim
    March 13th, 2008 at 6:40 pm

It’s not that he isn’t being “politically correct”, it’s about the hatefull and steriotypical opinions he is perpetuating in an already ignorant and racist society. Excuse him by calling it typical British rhetoric if you want, but this guy is the biggest ass I have seen in a long time. .

If you think this crap is funny then most people don’t care what you think anyway.

Amen Tim (and others who “get” it). Slitty eyes and the like? Har de har har. Once again many here are missing the point. This clown is supposed to be part of the monarchy. Does not royalty and other heads and somewhat heads of state or representatives of nations have a duty to hold themselves with dignity, culture, and class?

I guarantee you, if this clown said something offensive about what is near and dear to those here who are supporting him, no way would they find it so funny then. Hypocrisy!

He’s a bit racist but he’s not afraid to state his own opinion and that’s an admirable trait for someone with so much on his shoulders.

Most people would just remain silent and never say anything when something’s wrong… how can they learn anything if no one speak to them?

Sure, he’s hars and bigoted but then again… who’s not?

keep in mind that royals serve one purpose: to be royals. they don’t exactly go through extensive communications training, nor do they have much more to do than smile and wave. give the guy a break- he has no idea that what he says is offensive, and to him, he’s just being witty. he’ll be dead soon enough, and we can only hope that his kids (does he have any? i’m unfamiliar with what goes on over there.. rumor has it that royals shag like rabbits) don’t behave the same way when they’re 200 years old.

    @Pol X & violet -
Thanks for the clarification on proper usage of “cowboy & Indians” in the UK. It’s always “cowboys & Indians” in the USA as well, but I wasn’t sure if that phrase was used in Britain during the Prince’s more formative years. “Red Indian” always cracks me up when I stumble across it in an old British book. I guess once you include cowboys, it’s obvious which Indians are intended.

    @Mooncake-
Of course he has kids. Prince Charles is heir to the throne and *his* sons follow. Charles’s siblings (Andrew, Edward, and Anne) are further down… FWIW, Phillip is a WHOLE lot more entertaining than Prince Charles, who writes coffee table books about his garden that hardly anyone can visit and babbles on kookily about global warming. There’s a reason why E.R. is staying on the throne as long as possible….

wow! what a great person. he’s the only honest englishman left in the world, and has a great sence of humour.
well, the joke about the slitty-eyed students wasn’t one of the best. but, c’mon, about the fat kid, brasilians, indians it’s right to the point.
he’s not making fool of himself but of those who make long faces when he speaks. because he can say what everybody thinks.
would u buy an indian car or a german one?
is or is not overweight one of major health problems in US and UK?
    and so on.
hypocrisy is the other name for polical correctness. u cant change the world only playing with words.

Oh come off it, folks. Those here convinced HRH is some sort of heroic, anti-PC everyman (!) figure who admirably speaks “the truth” as he sees it have completely lost it. He’s not exactly addressing fine points of principle, people — he’s just plain mouthing off. If you’re this quick to assign some awesome moral standing to anyone’s “honest” words, as if that’s some kind of success in itself, no matter how unsophisticated, give your heads a shake. An “honest” boorish opinion doesn’t mean you’re not a boor.

  • John Davis
    March 18th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

Some of these are a bit suss (suspect). For one thing, there is no way he would use the word “firefighter.” It’s not his vocabulary. And I agree with the first poster. He meant to say “cowboy,” it got mixed up with “Indian.” I’m sure he didn’t mean a native of Injah!

In any case, “Philisms” are NOTHING compared to BUSHISMS!

My God, that guy must have a total vacuum between his ears!

    Yours sincerely,

Oh grow up and get a grip, people. The freedom to speak one’s mind is a rapidly disappearing freedom in the West, thanks to the Muslims on one side and the prissy-pants PC police on the other. I care a lot more that he had the guts to express his opinion given all forces against him, regardless of decorum. You may one day regret that you no longer have the ability to speak your mind.

So which of these “awful” statements he made are not true or inaccurate? Please tell me, because I like to be informed rather than reactionary.

    1. Is there a high level of alcoholism in Scotland?
    2. Aren’t some pajama robes similar to Nigerian clothing?
    3. Are (red or east) Indians renowned as great technicians? And isn’t it “racist” to call them “red”.
    4. Wasn’t the boy described as “chubby”?
    5. Smoke alarms ARE a damned nuisance when they go off for no reason, and are KNOWN to fail to wake children and many adults anyway.
    6. Loud Music causes hearing damage.
    7. Okay I don’t get the potbelly comment.
8.Chinese and Caucasians have different shaped eyes! Oh the shock of it all!
    9. Most countries’ problems are caused largely by their own people.
    10. He should know.
    11. What’s offensive about this? It’s a damn joke people!

    Get over yourselves.

Quit being offended for other people.

Okay, so sometimes he says the wrong thing. But at least he says something! And yes, he is like someone’s grandad who lived through the war, and who’s opinions are a bit out of date!

The Indian remark - here, in the UK, Indians are known for being very good at electronics - so that was a compliment to a complicated bit of machinery.

Princess Anne - the entire country knows she’s obsessed wth horses. That remark’s right on the money.

The painting - actually, I think that’s quite funny.

Okay, so he’s a cantankerous old fart who sometimes says the wrong thing. But he’s OUR cantankerous old fart!

To all of you that posted this type of comment:

Does not royalty and other heads and somewhat heads of state or representatives of nations have a duty to hold themselves with dignity, culture, and class?
