The Space Odyssey and Other Fantasy Hotel Rooms

By Alex in Pictures, Travel & Places on Mar 5, 2008 at 12:07 am

That’s the Space Odyssey room in FantaSuite Hotel in Burnsville, Minnesota. It’s a recreation of a Gemini Space Capsule, with a custom 10-sided bed and a "moon crater" tiled whirlpool.

The FantaSuite Hotel, as its name implies, specializes in themed hotel rooms, like Castle, Cave, Pharaoh’s Chamber, Sherwood Forest for adults to … um, act out their fantasies. Yeah. That’s it.

    Cheesetastic!
Nothing beats the Madonna Inn, though: http://madonnainn.com/tour/index.asp

it's a pretty loose recreation of a Gemini capsule. About the only thing in common is thatg it holds 2 people. Cram 'em into a lifesize Gemini!

I tried getting the girlfriend to do this, but she vetoed the idea. I'm hoping this little article will help convince her otherwise.

I have to admit that, for our wedding night, my husband and I stayed in the 50's suite at the Fantasy Inn in Reno, NV. Our bed was a a '57 Chevy convertible and it had the most awesome shower which took up one end of the room and had 6 shower heads. It was a lot of fun despite the cheese-tastic aspects of it.

I'm guessing a black light sweep in any of those rooms would change your mind about staying in them.

My wife and I stayed in this exact room - the space room in Burnseville, MN about 9 years ago when we started dating. It was a hoot. We even bought campy/trashy "space-themed" outfits - Think Barbarella.

As I remember - the room was actually quite small and very poorly lit. And the hotel location was so remote on the south end of the Twin Cities metro area that there was nothing around - no bars, no take out, no delivery - nothing. The bed had a built-in TV and video game console - it was a Nintendo - the original - not a PS2 or anything along those lines. There was an AM/FM stereo cassette player as well.

I think there was a gas station across the street - we managed to pick up a bag of chips or something to eat and we received a bottle of champagne with the room - it was nasty.

I think the whole experience was more fun talking about than actually experiencing. It was cheesetacular!

In Minnesota, I'd be more concerned about there being adequate HEAT in the room in the winter!!!!
