@Tony LaRocca:

You have another choice in that situation: power through it and go back to sleep. I can do this with any alarm clock I've tried, and after three or so days it doesn't even wake me up anymore.

I hit it once. Mostly because I paid for a clock with a snooze button and I want to get my money's worth.

Trick I learned from a friend in the army - put the alarm clock on the other side of the room, so you have no choice but to get out of bed and turn it off. Now you're up - might as well stay there.

I don't use the alarm - my internal clock wakes me when it's time to get up. I know... I suck. Heee.

I agree. I for one hit the snooze button ~3-4x a morning. However, it's a pattern I've developed as a college student, to have 2 alarms. One for gradually waking me up over a period of 15 minutes or so(alarm'll sound every 5 minutes), and one loud oh-crap-purposes-only alarm, usually preventing me from oversleeping.

My ex-roommate had an alarm clock that, when it went off, it would send this helicopter-propeller flying above and out into the room, and the only way it would turn off was to find that propeller and put it back. Nifty little thing.

I'm absolutely terrible at this. I always hit the snooze button and realize I'm late for everything when I wake up feeling good then look at the clock flashing 1 o'clock. :( Then it's a mad dash with a haphazard shower, horrible shave, a glass of milk and a piece of bread.

One of the reasons I enjoy not having a roommate is that I can hit the snooze button repeatedly over the course of an hour (or two, on some days) without feeling any guilt. :)

At 4:30AM with no sleep and a midterm at 8, the goal is to not fall asleep to begin with... seven years of this should be enough to take down a horse, let alone a human being. Being a full-time student and working full time killed my circadian rhythm. If I have time to brush my hair, it's a good day

I was raised as a military brat, Dad was your alarm and you best get up.
After I moved out I never used an alarm clock. Dads years of wake ups let me develop an ability to tell myself when to get up and I just did. I know it sounds weird, but, I was never late for work ever.

i've never hit the snooze. when the alarm goes off, it's time to get up. my girlfriend is the exact opposite though, and she wakes up one leg at a time.

Possibly the over-65 set has the alarm set a little later, as well.

Well, if you're over 65, you're likely retired and don't have to get up anyway.

Wow - I'm not in the majority. I don't usually hit the snooze button, I just sleep through the alarm for 3 hours (no, I'm not joking or exaggerating).

I'm horrible with the snooze button... I ended up buying one of those alarm clocks that runs away from you so you have to chase it down to shut it off.
