Stuff White People Like, the Blog

Posted by Alex in Blog & Internet on February 29, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Now this is the blog that tells it like it is. If you need insight on what white people like, that is. For example:

#71 Being the only white person around

In most situations, white people are very comforted by seeing their own kind. However, when they are eating at a new ethnic restaurant or traveling to a foreign nation, nothing spoils their fun more than seeing another white person.

Many white people will look into the window of an ethnic restaurant to see if there are other white people in there. It is determined to be an acceptable restaurant if the white people in there are accompanied by ethnic friends. But if there is a table occupied entirely by white people, it is deemed unacceptable.

The arrival of the “other white people” to either restaurants or vacation spots instantly means that lines will grow, authenticity will be lost, and the euphoria of being a cultural pioneer will be over.

LMAO!!! It’s funny because it’s true.

The web site has promise, but doesn’t deliver ultimately. It could shrewdly deconstruct stereotypes, but it doesn’t. To sum up the 70+ posts: white people are liberal middle class new yorkers.

Want excellent “ethnic” value food with few white people in it? Try the Hong Hong Eatery in Boston’s Chinatown.

After tasting what’s in your plate, you won’t give a f*ck about your color anymore, which is what everybody should do…

I’m the opposite, actually. I hate being the only white person in, say, a Chinese restaurant. Especially when they bring you a fork because they think you’re too inept to use chopsticks. :P

L: I was the only white person at a wedding with about 500 Vietnamese people (it was in Vietnam, of course). The waiter came by my table and handed me a knife and fork (everyone, including me, was eating with chopsticks). I was very amused by this polite gesture :-D

I think this site is hilarious. My friends and I have been reading it for the last couple of days and die everytime a new post comes up. If you don’t get satire… then maybe you need to check your life. It’s not racist, it’s funny and gives another look at a different perspective. Sorry you don’t get it. Thank you NEATORAMA for finally posting this!

@Apollo, I read that link and basically my conclusion is that an angry (sucks to be made fun of, I suppose) white guy attempts to expose a “tricky” Asian guy over perceived racial and cultural (maybe socio-economic) slights even though the whole thing smacks of satire … great.

Put me down in the “this is racist and offensive” column. All ‘white’ people want their kids to speak French? All ‘white’ people like musicals? What would happen if someone created a website with nothing but baseless generalizations about African-Americans or Latinos? (that site exists, and it’s called Stormfront)

I think the site is hilariously cringe-worthy. My goal is to hit at least 25% of the things on the list this weekend.

    “Threatening to move to Canada?”

Screw these fuck heads who obviously haven’t heard of the UNDERGROUND RAILROAD?

90% of the black people in Canada came from the united states and most were escaped slaves!!

Hey Honkey Devils read a goddamn book.

Any sort of offensive bits aside, the site just seemed stupid.

I like good satire. This is unfunny crap. I’m with bean. If there were sites called “stuff-mexicans-like”, “stuff-blacks-like” or “stuff-asians-like” filled with over the top generalizations and ridicule, you better believe we’d be hearing about on CNN.
This kind of thing does not help us progress.

I’m surprised at you, Alex. Not good. :(
    That’s all.

And here comes the flood of self-righteous indignation… Be honest now, those analogies about similar sites with other races don’t apply at all. Different ball park entirely. There is not an ounce of hate anywhere on that website.

Ignorant preconceptions of minorities are largely caused by a simple lack of understanding and experience. Do you really think that’s a problem for white people the way the media and entertainment business is structured?

People need to stop taking themselves so seriously.

Reechard, my dear, I am not white. I am Irish, Indian, and English.
I have had many experiences in the Irish and Indian as well as American cultures. I have been living here for 30 years yet I am accepted. My kids are Americans.
Stop trying to speak for me. You do not have that right.

I’d like to see a site like this but about Asian or Black people. Oh wait, satirizing racial stereotypes would be racist. Ironic how racism only applies to certain cultures eh?

I know satire and this isn’t satire. This is someone complaining about an annoying, small group of people (who happened to be white) that the author probably lives near.

For example, the “Oh I don’t own a TV” post. I am annoyed by people who say that too, and I agree with him that it seems the only reason they don’t is that they can brag about not having one. HOWEVER, this isn’t a ‘white’ thing. Many other races can fall into that pompous mentality.

And, claiming something is satire doesn’t give it an excuse to be racist. Racist is racist. Period. The sooner everyone learns that, the better.

How is this any different than saying “black people like watermelon?” Sooo fucking smug, this guy ironically distances himself from his own racism. Here’s an excerpt from the Divorce entry:

“white people further over analyze their lives and look for change, even if some of the stuff that they accomplished, like having good credit, a high paying job, or the ability to purchase a hybird car are THINGS THAT PEOPLE FROM OTHER ETHNICITIES WOULD LOVE TO HAVE.”

Why aren’t you getting out your torches and pitchforks?

I’m a white guy who finds this blog hilarious.

Similar ethnic jokes are made about other races and ethnicities all the time in good humor, if you watch any stand up comedy.

If its in good humor and not malicious, then its all fair game. It’s more of a culture commentary than a “racial” one.

    Lighten up people.

I’m white, I’m not offended and I don’t think it’s racists, it’s just not funny. Or clever. Half the things in there i’m sure other races enjoy doing as well

Sounds like the blogger lives in Los Angeles… I would say Orange County, but he mentions that white people don’t like Republicans and Orange County is primarily Republican. I have a feeling that the observations have more to do with socio-economic makeup of the blogger’s region than with actual ethnicity.

    alright political-correctness advocates:

    http://blog.stuffblackpeoplelove.com/
    http://www.jewlicious.com/?p=4256
    http://www.thinkunique.net/stuffasianpeoplelike/

here are FOUR examples that this blog is not the only one like it. it is NOT offensive. it is NOT racist. and it does not give white people a bad name. as a white person, i found them to be quite fitting. you guys have to realize that stereotypes stem from somewhere and they will always be perpetuated whether we like it or not. tough shit if that’s not something you agree with. it would only be racist if the author was NOT white.

The author of the SWPL site (and book) if a f*cking bigot. If he lived outside North America for any number of years he would realize this.
