I visited the Winchester Mystery House when I was a kid. It was pretty cool. The tour guides point out all the neat things (like the staircases that lead to nowhere and the doors that open onto nothing). I don’t remember much about it, other than I thought it was neat.

L, I envy you. Winchester House is one of those mythical buildings that one always wants to visit.

I loved Natirar, the former Kate Macy Ladd Home and former home of the King of Morocco. Absolutely beautiful interior and grounds. The guest houses alone make my houses look shabby. http://www.startsandfits.com/hardenbergh/natirar.html

Nice buildings — and yes, mine is a shack — dang it!!!

Another place you might want to look is along the North Shore area of Chicago, just north of Evanston. There are some BIG houses there on BIG lots.

Once, while visiting a friend in cold harbor, ny we kayaked up to Bannerman Castle. Got to do a little basic poking around but time kept us from any serious trespassing. Much to my great chagrin!

It’s an amazing artifact in a beautiful part of the country.

Also, just north of there is the DIA modern art museum which is also well worth the trek.

Well, now I know where that “drink your milkshake” business comes from! I still don’t know what it means, though.

Can’t believe they forgot the Biltmore mansion in NC!

Do a search for some amazing facts about the place.

Yeah! I live in NC, I went to the Biltmore Estate on my birthday and on Christmas break. It’s pretty in December. Anyway, the place is HUGE. It has its own vineyard.

I want to visit the Winchester House. It looks cool. My type of house. =)

Bannerman’s Island! I’m from the Hudson Valley and you can see it from all of the spots overlooking the river. I moved from home a few years ago, but it’s still my favorite site. Never actually been there since it’s sinking (hence the little tourism and hardhats), but it’s such a gorgeous site, sitting in the middle of the river between two mountains!

    Sorry, got nostalgic….

I’d go to any of them to take a look around. The big castle (Bannerman’s) sounds really cool.

I learned more from your paragraph about the Winchester Mystery House than I did from the entire website dedicated to it. Maybe they’re trying to keep things mysterious?

Is it just me, or does this articule only describe, not six, houses? Um …

So Stephen King lifted his whole backstory of “Rose Red” from the history of the Winchester House. Man, and I thought nothing could make that movie suck more.
