Dog Pranks Master by Hiding Truck

By Miss Cellania in Animals & Pets, Video Clips on Feb 23, 2008 at 7:10 am

(Live Leak link)

Charles McCowan parked his truck in front of a convenience store, leaving his dog Max inside. When he came out, the truck was gone! McCowan called police to report the theft. Officers found the truck in a parking lot across the street with the 80-pound boxer still inside. Security video shows the car had rolled backwards across five lanes of traffic! Apparently, Max had knocked the truck out of gear. Link -via Arbroath

Am I the only one who finds it scary that a coffee shop has one surveillance camera for three parking spots? Does that mean they have a dozen covering the entire exterior of the place? Do they have that much trouble or are they just that paranoid?

Mmm, I wouldn’t call it scary. We’ve only seen one video camera, and can only make assumptions on how many there might be. THAT’s kinda paranoid, if you ask me. ;)

Besides, if it were my place, you can bet I’d have security cameras everywhere. Even cheap, lo-res ones would be sufficient if it warded off robberies.

None of them looked in the parking lot across the street until they saw the security tape? I woulda maybe looked around a little while waiting for the cops…?

ted, according to the story, the police found the car first, then checked the tapes to see how it happened.

This is why cars have parking brakes.

Just leaving it in gear isn’t enough.

You’ve hit on something, Miss Cellania: misrepresentation of the facts.

The reported implies that the police discovered the truck across the street after looking at the security tapes. Nowhere does she report that they found the truck first. So, which story do we believe, the one in the video, or the one in the linked page? I only saw the video.

In my comment, I wondered why the truck owner did not look around the neighbourhood a little while waiting for the police. That point is still valid.
