You aren’t missing much. Most Best Picture winners are pretty mediocre. This is especially true for the past 20 years or so, but even if you go back to the beginning there are some truly forgettable movies that have won Best Picture.

Gigi confuses me. It says on the poster something about “The First Great musical since My Fair Lady”, but six years later My Fair Lady wins best picture. Howzzat?

It says “The First Lerner-Loewe Musical Since ‘My Fair Lady’” - both were on stage before they made it to the big screen, with the comedy writing team doing “My Fair Lady” before “Gigi”, but “Gigi” was turned into a movie first.

Still can’t believe Annie Hall beat out Star Wars in 1977. Sigh…
