Marijuana Vending Machine

Posted by Alex in Medicine, Pictures on January 25, 2008 at 3:57 am

Marijuana’s making the news tonight… Thrillist reports that the world’s first marijuana vending machine is in Los Angeles:

AVMs are 24/7 machines housed in standalone rooms, abutting two dispensaries and protected by round-the-clock security guards — like ATMs for people combating psychological withdrawal with a physical one. After cinching up your doctor’s consultation, hit an AVM location to get your prescription approved, fingerprint taken, and a prepaid credit card loaded with your profile: dosage (3.5 or 7 grams, up to 1oz a week) and strain preference (choice of five, including OG Cush and Granddaddy
Purple, the mildly hallucinogenic forebear to Prince). Then day or night, all you do is hit a machine and walk away with enough vacuum-sealed, plastic-encapsulated cheeba to adequately treat your illness …

It seems to me that politicians and judges would take the legalization of marijuana more seriously if there weren't strains with names like OG Cush and Granddaddy Purple.

I'm all for legalization, medical or otherwise, however...it is a bit difficult to be adamant about a cause when you're defending someone's use of "Sticky Icky" or "Super Skunk" to assist them with chronic pain.

I'm all for legalization. I'm in some legal trouble now, as I was suing marijuana to combat my Tourette's syndrome. But I agree, it would be easier done if strains had more legitimate names -- not that I don't miss Train Wreck.

This is not very smart people are going to lie about there medical problems just to be able to use the atm to purchase marijuana.

just be sure and smoke some weed, too bad they dont have those machines everywhere. The best thing "they" could do is fully decriminalize it! Since a harmless, even beneficial plant is illegal our government\law enforcement is a joke!

In my humble opinion the legalization and taxation of marijuana could very well set the economy back on track. on a side note, i find it to be absolutely ridiculous that cigarettes and alcohol are legal, but weed on the other hand is not, even though you never hear about stoned drivers killing a family of three (just an example not targeting anyone...except drunk drivers in comparison)

    Wow what a concept !
Now if the prices will only go down. I'm handicapped, in constant pain. But am also on a fixed income that barely affords essentials. No way I can afford, oh say... a half oz a month. Just don't have it. I get my vicodin for free, but it's from the government. Don't think they'll be prescribing weed anytime soon. Not even in California where I live.
Nice idea, though... weed from the Veterans Administration !!! Now there's a concept !!!!
    Peace
