Trivia: Alan Smithee, the Director of Unwanted Films

Death of a GunfighterHollywood film directors who wanted to dissociate themselves from their movies would use the pseudonym Alan Smithee.

The first director who used this pseudonym was Robert Totten, who worked on the 1969 Western Death of a Gunfighter. The film actually received critical acclaims. Read more about it here.
