At our old house, we had a hummingbird nest right outside of our window. That summer, we watched the momma bird feed her two babies every day.

Then one day, there was only one chick in the nest! I guessed one fell down (or maybe it was pushed out?)

Anyways, the remaining chick got twice the food ration and grew up to be quite chubby, so we named it so. Chubby flew around and had children of his own the next summer (or was it the summer afterwards). We named the baby Son of Chubby.

My husband is a native aussie who has never seen a hummingbird in real life. I had him convinced for a while that you had to be careful around hummingbirds because they will poke you with their long sharp beaks.

she’s not feeding them. this video is in reverse and she’s sucking out their insides with her syringe-like beak. that’s why they look so deflated at the end. dunno what those egg shaped things were though…
