The nature of this amazing photo taken by Nuray Gonulalan is up for debate down at ScienceBlogs. Is this some a masterly creation with the aid of photoshop resembling a flock of starlings forming a tornado-like column or something more sinister akin to Hitchcock’s “The Birds”?

Seems pretty obvious to me that these are definitely starlings.

There are many clips on youtube of starlings flowing in and out of beautiful formations like schools of fish.

There is a flock of starlings in the town of Fredericton in NewBrunswick Canada, that reside in an old abandoned building on the University campus. They make this formation every day as they enter and exit the building thru the Chimney.

    Cheers

I actually took this video of starlings myself: http://www.revver.com/video/140234/birds-flying-strange-formations/
It’s only a couple of minutes worth. But I stood there for an hour in amazement.
