It is really unfortunate that the magazine has stopped publishing.I used to read it about 15 years back and found that its predictions were always or nearly correct. Now today I came to know of it through you and am really sorry that such a good magazine had such a bad end.I do hope in future it will start publishing. This is my sincere wish.

A DOCTOR WHO DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT DIAGNOSIS OR MEDICINE
MAY DO HARM TO THE PATIENTS. A LAWYER WHO DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT LAW MAY DO HARM TO THE CLIENTS.

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT ASTROLOGY BETTER KEEP SILENCE.

In January 1999 I was in Kerala in India. An astrologer looked at my chart and told me I would face a life threatening illness in 9 months. In September that year, I had a burst colon from a completely unsuspected problem with diverticulosis (didnt even know that I had a problem before) and had emergency surgery. I was on a bowel bag for a year before it was repaired. As I am allergic to penicillin, this was indeed a life threatening situation for me.

I have seen very accurate predictions made by other astrologers, some of them years in advance. These convinced me that there was something in Indian astrology. However, I must say that I have only seen this accuracy with Indian astrologers and Sri Lankan astrologers. So far I havent had any such experiences with western astrologers practicing Indian astrology, but that may just be my luck.

Dear Friends

Stop making fun on someone's difficulties. The magazine was shut down because the editor's aging mother is bedridden - says Wikipedia update. Too bad, the magazine did not
build a sustainable organization of subeditors who can
continue to churn out profits.

 ***

While the irony is good as humor, just remember
they said 'unforeseen' and not 'unforeseeable'.
Good astrologers dont keep looking at their own charts.
From what I have seen, it is possible to predict the enddate of a magazine. I cant do that, but I once
had someone take my thumb print impression and read out
my family history and future events of my life and also write out a birthchart for me showing my birth date and time accurately. I became a believer from that
day in 1991.

-------

Gayathri, the editor of astrological magazine, is
a good astrologer and she did predict in Jan 2001, the fire and destruction of 911:

Here is a clipping:

Gayatri Devi Vasudev wrote in the January 2001 issue an astrological analysis predicting the world trends in the upcoming year.

Exerpts from this magazine:

-"The Sun, as ruler of the lunar year, is ascribed certain specific results in classical works, such as: Kings will be in bad temper, engaging themselves in destructive attacks and invasions and in mindless violence. Rulers armed with mighty bows, swords and staves, will go about destroying countries in wars."

-"July 9, 2001 Jupiter enters the constellation Aridra which he transits until Sept. 17, 2001; "this period may see a religious or cult leader exposed."
-"Mars will be in opposition to Rahu on Sept. 14, 2001 and warns against a nuclear disaster or gas tragedy ... disasters ... fire break outs are also supported by such a disposition of Mars (around that time)."
-"Mars aspects Saturn (Retrograde) on Dec. 22, 2001. The United States may find itself forced into military action either in the Gulf or in a neighboring state."

The charts used by astrologers are not 1000s of years old. They calculate for each person the planetary positions at their birthtime. And these positions are the same results that match NASA calculations.

Please -
"Do not ridicule anything you havent studied."

When someone ridiculed astrology in the presence of Isaac newton, he said these above words.

Besides, aren't the charts used by astrologers thousands of years old? Haven't the positions of the stars changed in relation to us? Even if it did work for the Sumerians (or whoever) would it still work for us? And what is the purported mechanism for the influence that heavenly bodies have on us. Apart from Keira Knightley of course. The influence of her heavenly body is plain for all to see.

What's not to like about astrology & horoscopes? There are 12 signs, so divide the population of the world (~6 billion) and so 500 million people are going to have pretty much the same day as you.

And don't forget the shattering accuracy of prognosticators in general; that full-on warning of 9-11 that allowed us to avoid so much trouble and save so many lives. Sarcasm aside, surely if any fortune telling worked, that day would have stood out to someone?

Isn't that the way? You're told something all your life, only to find out on Neatorama that it's really not the case.

Astrology is a very old superstition based on the movements of the stars in the sky. Certain constellations were thought to preside over different times of the year. Its popularity today remains because of its idea that you can predict the outcomes of certain events or actions based on a person's birthdate or the particular time of year. It's also used to make sweeping generalizations about people's characters and psychological attributes. Finally, people use astrology for matchmaking and compatibility, because the stars know best.

I remember a hindu wedding that was delayed for hours until the stars lined up just right.

To me, that's as superstitious as the horoscope in the daily paper - probably more so, because a lot of people don't really take the paper horoscope that seriously.

And the best time to attack a neighbour is when his back is turned - duh.

How funny. Yes, if you were to look around and find the real astrology instead of reading the paper you might understand. However, people are quick to turn it off.

Astrology was used to determine the best time to start something. Like what is the best time to attack a neighbor. Only Buddhists claim that they can predict peoples birthday and death day. But they don't claim to predict the future with Astrology.

Wow, there are people on here defending astrology.

BTW, some people may suggest that anyone who uses the phrase "cling to a materialist philosophy" to describe someone who looks at the evidence of a claim before basing their beliefs on it do so just to make themselves feel superior.

It's not a psychic magazine: it's an <i>astrology</a> magazine. That it doesn't taste like a granny smith isn't a bad thing, if it's an orange in the first place.

Astrology historically (and yes, even today <i>in most countries</i>) is largely a predictive enterprise. Fortunes were spent on astrologers not because they could tell the king what the king was like, but because it was believed they could tell the king what the future was like.

But, ancient or modern, astrologists were and remain a touchy, defensive bunch.

The supposed irony is lost unless you subscribe to the santa claus explanation of what it means to be psychic. I've known people who could be /called/ psychic (mostly precognitive dreams) but I've yet to meet a someone who has a link to instantly knowing everything without fail and the only people who appear to claim as such are T.V whores worse than the greediest tele-evangelical programs.

I don't know anything about this magazine, or whether it's actually real, but modern astrology is primarily about understanding the human psyche with it's different aspects and changing dynamics, not 'fortune telling'.
Still, I guess astrology is always good for a cheap shot to make folks who cling to a materialist philosophy feel superior.
So, ha ha! Great gag!
