I have seen very accurate predictions made by other astrologers, some of them years in advance. These convinced me that there was something in Indian astrology. However, I must say that I have only seen this accuracy with Indian astrologers and Sri Lankan astrologers. So far I havent had any such experiences with western astrologers practicing Indian astrology, but that may just be my luck.

From what I have seen, it is possible to predict the enddate of a magazine. I cant do that, but I once
had someone take my thumb print impression and read out
my family history and future events of my life and also write out a birthchart for me showing my birth date and time accurately. I became a believer from that
day in 1991.

And don't forget the shattering accuracy of prognosticators in general; that full-on warning of 9-11 that allowed us to avoid so much trouble and save so many lives. Sarcasm aside, surely if any fortune telling worked, that day would have stood out to someone?

Astrology is a very old superstition based on the movements of the stars in the sky. Certain constellations were thought to preside over different times of the year. Its popularity today remains because of its idea that you can predict the outcomes of certain events or actions based on a person's birthdate or the particular time of year. It's also used to make sweeping generalizations about people's characters and psychological attributes. Finally, people use astrology for matchmaking and compatibility, because the stars know best.

I remember a hindu wedding that was delayed for hours until the stars lined up just right.

To me, that's as superstitious as the horoscope in the daily paper - probably more so, because a lot of people don't really take the paper horoscope that seriously.

And the best time to attack a neighbour is when his back is turned - duh.

Astrology was used to determine the best time to start something. Like what is the best time to attack a neighbor. Only Buddhists claim that they can predict peoples birthday and death day. But they don't claim to predict the future with Astrology.

BTW, some people may suggest that anyone who uses the phrase "cling to a materialist philosophy" to describe someone who looks at the evidence of a claim before basing their beliefs on it do so just to make themselves feel superior.

Astrology historically (and yes, even today in most countries) is largely a predictive enterprise. Fortunes were spent on astrologers not because they could tell the king what the king was like, but because it was believed they could tell the king what the future was like.

But, ancient or modern, astrologists were and remain a touchy, defensive bunch.
