I've had a nose around this and it really looks closer to an urban legend than reality:

http://www.wunderkabinett.co.uk/damndata/index.php?/archives/1226-Did-twins-really-get-married.html

As has been said this seems more like a lesson in the way media work (and why we should be suspicious of them) than a story about unfortunate twins.

Well, if we were to ignore the lack of evidence here, that would seem like an odd story.
But this really is a short article and doesn't have anything to support itself.

I have read interesting comments on this story, several of which indicate how people often marry someone who looks like them. I thought that was quite amusing as I have had people ask me if my brother-in-law (hubby's little brother) was my biological brother because we look similar. Just to relieve any concerns, I know we are not blood-related, lol.

At least we can thank the fact that they didn't have kids...because that would have been awkward. Very, very awkward to explain to their friends.

it was on Reuters too. In ALL cased of the article, it says "according to SuchAndSuch" then goes on to state his story as fact.

What a great lesson on how much we can rely on 'official' media.

As a side note, it's odd that the story is a 'good example' for the politician's agenda.

Really, if you had the misfortune of marrying your twin, would you want the world to know who you are? This could be true for all we know, because I'm fairly sure no one would want to come forth and confirm it.

I agree with a lot of the info above. A politician shares a 'story' about bla bla bla. Sounds like BS.

And I thought the pic was one of them too, at first. but then again, his pic is the only thing we have.

i like how neatorama leaves the fact that the picture is of the politician until the very end of the post.

here i was thinking that was one of the practitioners of consanguinity (look it up).

grounds for libel, methinks...

I doubt it's BS... They had a full report about it on the news last night, didn't catch most of it, but I'm pretty sure this is all true.

Wow! I just justified the authenticity of a story because I saw it in the media... o_O

No names, no first hand witness, just a story from a poletician to support a pet cause.
