Some of the pics on icanhascheezburger might explain those fears. Besides, isn’t “irrational” a relative term?

Any fear of cats should be considered irrational.
Oh, no– a tiny a subset of people who can’t enjoy lolcats! Poor, poor ailurophobes. :’(

What’s the name for the rational hatred of cats?
Until the inlaws cat ran away (hooray!) it would pee on my pillow and in my suitcase every time I visited.

This black girl I knew was deathly afraid of cats, she said they could look into your soul or something. Especially when they panted, she said the cat was stealing you breath? WTF?

There’s also Ranma Saotome of the Ranma 1/2 manga. He suffers extreme fear of cats, due to childhood trauma. A short description can be found at Wikipedia, of course.

Fear of cats isn’t entirely irrational if you consider that one of the main driving forces for primitive “humans” to develop larger and more complex brains for reasoning purposes was predation by big cats.

I seem to have a knack for animals since cats and dogs always seem to like me. That’s great and all…until I’m wearing my good clothes and find animal hair all over it!
