Baby Born At McDonald’s

Posted by Algonkin in Video Clips on January 2, 2008 at 10:15 am

A baby was born in a McDonald’s restroom in Vancouver, Wash, and the mother didn’t even know she was pregnant.

It was the evening shift last Friday at the fast-food restaurant when employee Danille Miller suddenly felt ill and ran for the bathroom. Her 16-year-old co-worker, Jaynae Herrera, followed “I was like are you pregnant?” Herrera asked. “Because she was in the bathroom, and I’m like, are you pregnant? She says, I don’t think so. A couple minutes later, she says the baby is coming out, and that’s when I started freaking out.”

Herrera, with the assistance of a 911 dispatcher, helped her deliver baby Austin Laddusaw, and both mother and baby are fine. Miller said, “I was so shocked I couldn’t talk. I was shaking the whole time. I didn’t stop shaking until three the next morning. My sister stayed the night with me.”

I think the McDonald’s part is much less interesting that the fact that she didn’t know she was pregnant.

How fat was she that she didn’t notice being pregnant? Didn’t she miss her period? Couldn’t she feel the baby moving in her?

Even watching the video, I have trouble believing this.

Well, at least it happened in a McDonald’s toilet bowl. Those Wendy’s bathrooms are disgusting.

Poor baby. He looked rather nonplussed.

(Also, Vancouver is in British Columbia, Canada– not Washington. :-))

This happened in Vancouver Washington. Not Vancouver B.C.

    @KickItKitsune-
Check this out: There are (at least) 2 Vancouvers! One is in Canada and one is in the US! How crazy is that! I’m told there are also 2 Georgias (at least), 2 Londons, 2 Moscows, 2 Syracuses, 2 Uticas, &c. I’ve been unable to verify all those of course, but wouldn’t it be crazy if there were all these parallel worlds?

    like, like, like, like….

Lots of people can be pregnant and not know it. Lots of girls/women have irregular or non existent periods.

My worry would be how healthy is the baby since she didn’t know she was pregnant.

Usually, women who are pregnant but don’t know it are very obese because 1) part of obesity is irregular or non-existent period and 2) all the body fat prevent them from feeling the baby moving.

Like blo, I noticed she wasn’t that big - so maybe she was just in denial? It’s not just a river in Egypt, ya know…

Vancouver, Washington is just across the bridge from Portland, Oregon.

Ok, a baby born, into a toilet, at a McDonalds, to a woman who wasn’t aware enough to even know she was pregnant.

All those factors added in… Man.. all the other countries are going to make fun of us (USA) for this. Talk about cliche meets symbolism.

    Yikes…. *sigh*

@ just a guy: this isn’t the only incident that would make other countries make fun of us… you do know who our president is, right?

i’m sure the girl’s boss was thinking “future employee” when that kid popped out. poor thing…

Considering that I am less than 3 weeks away from my due date, I find it very difficult to believe that a woman could be preggers and not feel her baby moving (my bottom rib on my right side feels constantly bruised from his kicking), but I know it’s possible. Perhaps I just have a VERY active and violent baby. But apparently my own great grandmother had no idea she was pregnant with her last child, one of her doctors even thought it was a tumor (she was over 40 at the time), but even though my uncle didn’t move much he was born a healthy baby. I can see how it’s possible, although fairly uncommon.

And yes, there’s a Vancouver, WA. I used to live in Puyallup, I aught to know!

Okay, no way did she not know something was not normal. She was not obese, a little heavy, possibly related to the pregnancy, but it was definitely a heavy case of denial. Her periods would have stopped, there would have been other physical changes to her body (there are so many, some of them happen to every woman), the baby had to have moved, and she was young, so there was no thought of her being menopausal.

It’s good the baby appears healthy. I’m sad that this baby probably has a very poor future, with a single, teenage mother who refused to face the fact of her situation, and will probably now refuse to face the facts of what is really required to raise a healthy, happy child.

The reporter said she was 16 which means she had to get pregnant at 15 -maybe she is a victim of sexual abuse. Who’s the daddy?

Dude this is Vancouver,WASHIINGTON not BC!
I live right down the street (less than 1/2 mile) from that location and my sister is actually good friends with the woman who delivered the baby. She told me all about it a few nights ago.
