Happy New Year 2008, Everyone!

Boy, 2007 had gone by very quickly - a lot happened that year: our family had quite a scare - my father had a mild stroke (he's recovering well, thank God), I had to move my business into a new warehouse, and the highlight of the year: our new baby boy was born a few days before Christmas.

Neatorama had a great year, too. We posted a lot of neat stuff (8,099 posts, to be exact - an average of over 22 posts a day!), got a lot of comments (47,357 - keep 'em coming!) and welcomed new authors to the blog. We had over 13.3 million unique visitors, 25.6 million visits, and 62 million pageviews in 2007. Neatorama owed it all to you, gentle readers, so thank you for visiting and for telling your friends about the blog.

I haven't been posting for a while - the baby and work had taken a lot of out of my days and nights, but things are settling back down. So, for 2008, my New Year Resolutions are to post a lot more neat stuff on the blog, to start new fun collaborations (more on this in the next couple of days, hopefully) and giveaways, as well as to expand the blog's functionalities. Which brings me to this:

I'd like to hear from you on ideas to improve Neatorama. What would you guys like to see on the blog? More current events? Less embedded videos or more of 'em? How about a forum or a community- would that be fun?

Happy New Year, everyone! (and while we're at it: what areyour New Year Resolutions?)

Not to offend anyone, but i find some of the articles posted are rather lacking, and aren't as interesting as one might think they are.

I'd rather see a reduction in bad posts than an increase in posts with lower quality.

Aside from that, i love this website, and Happy New years to everyone!

I just know that with the way Neatorama is going 2008 is going to be a good year. Keep up the good work.

Neatorama on the top of my favorites list.

Cheers, Happy New Years

Well suhan, it's quite difficult to gauge the "interesting-ness" of a post as it is very subjective. What is interesting to you may not be interesting to others.

But we'll try harder to dig up "neat" stuff for y'all!

Happy New Year! Thank-you for helping to make 2007 a neat year.

Collaborations are a great idea. I, myself, came here from the What Is It blog.

If you could improve one thing, it would be to offer subcategories in the manner of Fark. As you can tell from my previous posts, I do not much care for articles about extravagant items. On the other hand, I am a sucker for art videos. So, you see, my problem with the site is that if I am away for a couple of days, I have to wade through pages of neat, but uninteresting, posts.

I like the current mish-mash of post topics. I usually visit a couple of times a day, so its nice to see the site updated frequently.
By the way Edward, there is a list of "Category" links, top and to the right of the posts.

I think that forums would be one of the greatest additions to this site. You could have a topic in it just for suggestions and people could communicate better. I also don't want to see very many more of the animal or cat posts, cats, are boring.

I think Miss C and the rest of Neato's authors did a good job filling in. It was a LOT of diapers, btw - Baby Ziggy has a robust constitution.

More embedded videos, really? I had thought the opposite, John Elton (though if that's a witty reversal of your name and idea, then everything makes more sense!)

I'm thinking of changing the category links a little bit - 60 subcategories are a little too wieldly.

i have to say, this is such a great site. i love the diverse posts and the crazy stuff that gets dug up. the amount of embedded videos is fine. alex, you're doing great. miss c- also doing great.

i love cats and all, but there has been an abundance of cat stuff lately. it could be cut back a little bit.

i'm always a fan of political stuff, but i would understand if you didn't want to bring that kind of controversy to the table.

maybe some more games and video game reviews. if you need some help, i would be happy to oblige. i'm a video game nut, and my boyfriend is married to his x-box 360. i have plenty of time to sit here at work and play lots (and LOTS) of flash games too.

otherwise, keep up the good work and i will continue to recommend this site to all of my friends!

i love the random mix of posts/topics. and the ones that sometimes tie in to previous posts.

you can't please all of the people all of the time, but posting a wide variety daily will get you close to it.

keep up the good work and we'll keep reading!

I agree with MoonCake and aware. Keep the posts diverse. I hate having to slog through a dozen sites to get the good parts.

I also want the format to stay the same. I've been a regular since March and nothing is worse to a regular than messing up the colors, changing everything's location, and adding useless graphics that take forever to load.

Also, I like all of the flash games that are coming in. They should be easy to play and appeal to a broad range of people.

Congrats with you baby and thanks for this awesome site!

Happy New Year from Texas, y'all! :-)

I agree on streamlining the categories, Alex. Other than that, things seem just fine to me. Yes, there are articles I find either dull or inappropriate, or offensive. But y'know what? I'm a big girl, I just suck it up and go to the next one. You can't please everyone, so why bother?

Give Baby Ziggy a smooch from Aunty TwoDragons! *grin*

gross deformities, diseases should have there own seperate link or should be listed directly on their own seperate categories for the squeemish
you could put a star by categories that have new posts added to them
Embeded videos make the page makes it takes longer to load maybe they should only be put in the permalinks
I love the way mental floss has a list of sites like it but I'm sure you could do even better
This sight is really clean it's more organized than dark roasted blend
I really like architecture more of that would be awesome

Thank you very much for running this blog I really apreciate it

I'd say don't change a thing, the ever changing mix of interesting and stupid is what makes Neatorama neat (although maybe you could get the bowling shirt company to change their freaking ad - I'm tired of looking at smug guy).

Love the website. It's one of the daily ones I must visit.

I used to visit cellar.org simply for my unusual/amazing picture of the day, but they are trying to get away from that. Would love it if you'd pick up something along those lines. Also love the quick flash games. Just basically love the diversity of the site.

Would really hate if you became political and started posting that type of material. There are plenty of other sites for that and you'll immediately alienate 1/2 your audience depending on which side of the political line you fall (something Hollywood has yet to learn and understand.)

Keep up the great work and have a great 2008!!!

I'd like to know where you got that spectacular font, Neatorama! It's rather neat, and reminds me of an old one I used to have. . .

I love the posts, I find almost all of them. . . neat! And I love the fact I can check neatorama in the morning ,and by the time I check it at night, theres more neat posts for me to read. :) I can't imagine anything making it better
