Video: Coraline movie footage
It certainly looks suitably creepy. Here’s Coraline at Wikipedia if you’re unfamiliar. The movie is by LAIKA Entertainment, which was recently profiled by Fast Company. Via Drawn, which offers some related links.

i hope thats not the voice they are really gonna use. sounds so typically ‘ghosty’.. why do all ghosts have to sound like that??
but… i’m glad neil gaiman is starting to get some love… wish they would get on with a Sandman HBO or Showtime series though.
Whenever I hear that a movie is coming out based on a book that I like, it makes me worry. Look at what hollywood did to Sagan’s Contact. unforgivable!
(and i just know the new “The Day The Earth Stood Still” is going to suck!)
I actually thought Contact was pretty good after the first spaceship blew up (sure, not that many people made it that far…).
sci-fi doesn’t translate to film well. they tend to dumb it down. the only real exception was 2001, but Kubrik thought it would be better to just not explain in the film what a Type III civilization was…
Hey, most movies are bad, period. Gattaca and The Andromeda Strain are probably my favorite “serious” sci-fi movies.
More on topic, anyone seen the tv version of Gaiman’s Neverwhere? Amateurish would be kind.
wowza! finally an english speaking cartoon/animated movie with the balls to produce media OTHER than for the sole benefit of merchandising! good job western civilization!
oops spoke too soon, just preordered my very own limited edition coraline sippy cup!
I used to live down the street from Laika in Portland, OR. Impressive to see their work!
