"I say, ban people older than four from making this kind of art. Would do some justice to the genre."

Yeah, I forgot Andy Warhol was talented. Not to mention banning people from art ruins the genre. Read some history on art and you'll understand. I think you need to be banned from art. :)

I rather like the elephant picture. I can also see how easy it would be to accept the pieces as "real art" (although how one defines that is a debate for another thread). The kid is using different mediums on one page in some cases. That's unusual for kid drawings. There are other unusual elements too. His own inspiration or coached a bit by artsy parents?

In any case, I'm glad it's still human nature to trust what others say at face value. If nothing else, this debacle is proof there's still hope for us all.

Honestly, there is some abstract art I do like, particularly when the colors compliment my walls.

Having said that, I feel that abstract art is also crap. it honestly takes zero talent. I make it myself when I feel LAZY but want to sell art. It always sells.

Its a shame when I know of fantasy artists out there who put countless more hours, detail, and expertise into their work than abstract artists, and yet... their work will remain unwanted and unsold while abstract is snatched up like some rare gem. Ugh... Makes me crazy.

I think the 'elephant' picture is brilliant and I'm more impressed by the fact it was 'painted/smeared' by a two year old.

Just because a painting is made by a two year old, doesnt mean that it can't be a good picture. I have seen minimalistic drawings by 2-3 year olds, that i would love to have hanging on my wall. I would even buy them. The problem is when you feel the urge to put labels and names on everything. Art is about individual perception and not objective classification.
the entire idea of abstract art (or at least a lot of it) is that it’s heavily open to interpretation. if someone derives meaning from it, that doesn’t mean they’re wrong. obviously in this case there is no correct interpretation so let people take what they want from it.
I don't think that's why people have problem with snooty artists. The reason people (at least me) have a problem with snooty artists is because of their tendancy to say/suggest/have an attitude that only artsy fartsy people can create abstract art or get meaning from it.

£20 isn't that much for a peice of art that size.

That kid is cute. His paintings are pretty too. I'd put that shit on my wall, 2 year old or not.

During my first day at school I did such a painting, (while crying for my mommy :)
It really looked like cool modern art and my Mom had it nicely framed and 3 decades later it was still hanging on the wall at her Bed and breakfast place.
One day artists came at the B&B and she tricked them into guessing the artist. The echange, full of names, artistic currents and whatnot, was cut short when my Mom revealed the truth.

OMG. Those guys are so gullible.
At least my Mom's friend had a good sense of humour!
