Dead New York Leaves

For $7.99 you can get a box of dead leaves from real New York Trees. From the page (sorry about the capitals):

FRESHLY FALLEN AUTUMN LEAVES FROM REAL NEW YORK TREES WILL BE USED AS VOID-FILL (PACKING) IN ALL AMRON EXPTL. PRODUCT SHIPMENTS PLACED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 15TH AND DECEMEBER 23RD.

this is so arrogant an idea, it beggars belief. climate change? what climate change? what america needs (and by extension the rest of the world) is a MASSIVE hike in fuel prices. we're all doomed.

They are removing the leaf litter from the forest that enriches the soil provide nutrients for plant life and a haven for the tiny insects only to mail it somewhere else. This could also run the risk of spreading diseases to other trees. Does that make ecologic sense? I think not.

I emailed the website's email address and said this...

Scott,

I saw your idea for getting fall leaves from New York mailed to you on Netorama.com. However I feel like this idea is counter productive and not environmentally sensitive.

My suggestion is, take the money you are using to buy the cardboard box and the amount it costs to ship the leaves, and plant more trees in New York. Helping to preserve green space in cities so that more people can enjoy more trees seems more appropriate and important than mailling someone a box of leaves. Just a thought.

Thanks for listening.

Haha, that's hilarious. My parents live in upstate NY, and have to take truckloads of leaves from our backyard to the compost center every week. I sent them the website link, maybe they can sell their leaves and retire early. Or at least get a good laugh from it.

The tumbleweed lady made a fortune selling wild tumbleweeds that blow past her house -she calls her mail order site tumbleweed farms--- there must be something around my house that somebody would pay me for.

i like how it says "real" new york trees. i guess as opposed to "fake" new york trees...

i kinda think it's neat that they're using leaves as packing, but it's really super dumb that they're charging $7.99 just for the box of them. it's not like they're exploiting trees of NY.. maybe they are.. but i could definitely see it as a marketing ploy, yunno, to promote products available only during this time of year. maybe not food...
