Clever, but untrue. I built a desktop computer without reading a manual or any previous experience.
Funny joke, but anything coming from von Braun with the phrases “mass produced” and “unskilled labor” is a little creepy.
Roger is dead on here… Whilst von Braun was a brilliant engineer & scientist, his own “labor practices” during the War left a bit to be desired. He and the other Operation Paperclip were *really* lucky that the Cold War immediately followed WWII. Were that not the case, he probably would not have enjoyed the coddling he subsequently received.
@John J: “I built a desktop computer without reading a manual or any previous experience.”
Clever – but untrue.
You ASSEMBLED a bunch of pre-engineered, pre-manufactured, pre-tested computer components into a desktop computer (and don’t even get me started about writing the BIOS code and burning that to a EPROM or compiling a boot loader from scratch, or drivers, or a OS, etc, etc.).
