@lucky: hang in there! I know all about depression (though not personally, thank God, there are people close to me who are prone to depression). Definitely seek help if you suffer from deep depression. @Holly: Sorry to hear about your mother. And I'm thankful for the Texas Historical Society too. Oh, not the THC you had in mind? I jest.

I'm thankful for modern antibiotics and pain relievers. And chocolate, leftover pineapple upside down cake, and weekends. (oh, and my family, friends, and cool people like my fellow neatorama readers) : )

Happy Thanksgiving to Americans! It's great that you have a holiday that's completely American and your own, which hasn't been commericialized by the big companies (yet). I think we could learn a lot from this holiday, and the others would be more enjoyable.
Oh and what am I thankful for? That there's still plenty of time before Christmas to get my shopping done ^_^

Belated happy Thanksgiving to you all in the USA from Buckinghamshire, England. I guess most of us have a lot to be thankful for when we stop and think about it. The obvious ones are, good health, my kids with their own homes and good jobs, the beautiful changing of the seasons and a comfortable warm house.

Although I sadly lost my mom last year in the rare incident of a suburban murder-suicide, I'm thankful for having had her the 20 years I did. I'm thankful for having had her influence and free-spirited upbringing, as I feel I can carry on her legacy the way she would have wanted. I'm thankful for my father, two older brothers and the fantastic friendships I have accumulated over the years. I'm thankful for my loving boyfriend, whom I'm hoping to spend my life with, and my cute kitty that brings a smile to my face every time he looks at me with an implication that he has NO idea what's going on. Evar. Lastly, I'm thankful for whatever God invented THC. Oh yea- I'm tankful for Neatorama too, for I would be lost without its randomness, and I would be VERY bored at work. Thanks Neatorama.

Even though there is not Thanksgiving in Switzerland, I am thankful to my parents, family and friends for giving me the opportunity of being as I am.

I am thankful for having a family, a boyfriend, a roof over my head, food in my plate, books, music, freedom of speech / religion /... for having peace and education, a computer to write on and a paper to write up!

I am thankful to all of you for sharing your comments with the rest of the world and I am thanfkul to Neatorama and others for making me smile, day after day...

i am thankful for the people who are there for me when my depression seems to take over my thoughts...i am thankful for my cat who head butts me when i get sad...i am thankful for daily distractions that make me smile (like neatorama)...and i am thankful for being born (the year i was born my birthday fell on thanksgiving)

@Britt: I don't think Thanksgiving in USA is insane. Quite the opposite, it's the one holiday where everyone (regardless of race and religion) can celebrate. It's also non-commercial (unlike Christmas) - there's nothing to buy (except dinner if you're hosting it, I suppose).

Travel during Thanksgiving, on the other hand, is usually a nightmare. And shopping the day after Thanksgiving (I hear some retailers jumped the gun and started on Thanksgiving) is beyond belief!

@Mike: that was a touching story. Thank you for sharing something so personal - I hope others who need help to overcome their alcohol abuse are inspired to get all the help they need.

I had to work today, Thanksgiving for our family will be this Saturday. Hopefully my son will stop bouncing off the walls long enough to actually eat with us this time... *long-suffering sigh*

I'm thankful for God, my family, my wonderful circle of friends...and the fact that we're neither rich enough to spend all our time worrying about our possessions, nor poor enough to wonder when our next meal may be, but wealthy enough to give what little we have to someone who needs it.

I'm grateful for Alcoholics Anonymous, who helped me escape the miserable, drunken life I'd been leading for 20 years. I only went for about a year, but I guess it stuck. Today makes 10 years of sobriety. I'd have been dead instead of having the great family and a successful career I now enjoy. Thanks to AA and God.
