Watch Out for … Berserk Llamas!

By Alex in Animals & Pets on Nov 3, 2007 at 2:53 am

Just as I thought it’s safe to roam the hills again, National Geographic Magazine’s All-Terrain blog informs us of this frightening bit of news: the llamas have gone berserk!

"Do you have a llama that scares you? You are not alone."

So begins one Web site aimed at helping concerned llama breeders deal with a shameful problem that apparently has been haunting rural America since the pack animal first began to gain traction in the livestock market in the 1970′s.

"… [S]cary and dangerous behaviors often develop without the handler or owner even knowing that something is wrong … until it is really wrong," the site continues.

Some call it, simply, "Berserk Syndrome," or "Berserk Male Syndrome." Others refer to it more broadly as "Berserk
Llama Syndrome."
