Actually what Dumbledore sees when he looks into the mirror of Erised is his family.
I’m glad Dumbledore’s gay, and I like that JK Rowling didn’t make a huge deal over it!

Now watch the retaliation of a bunch of close-minded parents throwing those books away as they won’t have their children reading novels with gay characters in them … even tho she makes no note of it in the novels themselves.

Not that it maters to me, but I think she just did it to draw more attention to the books.
I don’t know how anyone could read the books after 2 or 3 of them. It’s the same crap over and over.

Do you seriously think that she needs this to draw attention to her books? (surprisingly there is no sarcasm in that last comment). Can you even fathom how many of these she have been sold around the planet? I doubt she needs this to sell any more. -

I agree with John J. Sorry, astroman. These kinds of revelations are the only way Rowling’s going to get any attention, now that the series is finished.
Or is it? Maybe she’ll come out with a new series called “Albus: The Lost Years”. Of course, it would have to go in an entirely different section in the bookstore…

To cast anyone as gay in that fantasy story is an affront to gay people. Harry Potter’s world is not a sexual world. If you really want to go there, Snape seems like a perfect candidate for a foot fetish. Hagri liked giant women - perhaps Harry could have found his secret stash of Jugs in the forest. She could tell the story of how Miss McGonagall initiated shy, young Neville Longbottom into manhood. Maybe she could reveal how Ron used that shapechanging potion to spend countless nights in front of the mirror gazing at, and fondling “Hermione’s” naked body.
To pencil Dumbledore in as gay is more of an insult to gay people than a compliment. She’s saying, “You can be gay as long as you don’t ever mention it, or act on it, and if you die.”
Great positive thinking. (sarcasm)

So, this is important because… ?
Sure, he was a fairly central character, but think about it; a fictional character in a fictional story has a fictional homosexual relationship with another fictional fringe character of the story, and that relationship is disclosed outside the world of the story. What difference does this revelation make to the stories, especially now that the series has run its course?

Dave: people who are greater fans than I (ie, those who read all the books), believe that Dumbledore being in love with Grindelwad (?) better explains his past actions (as revealed in book 7) than simple friendship or being conned into some idea.

Well, he’s gay ok. Big controversy, just before some major releases in foreign langage. How convenient. I do agree with John J.
But the real question is : is he a sex abuser teacher? That would be fashionable. Being gay is so much overrated…
