Once the World Wildlife Foundation reads The R-S-C Factor, they’ll be able to figure out why this is such a tough item to sell.

Oh no! South America is running out of paper towels!

This is pretty misleading and not a little simple minded as the vast majority of paper comes from crop trees and tree farms. These trees were planted to be turned into pulp.

Oh I feel stupid. I only read the headline and stared at the picture for a good 10 seconds. “What the hell does this have to do with the World Wrestling Federation”

Stupid wildlife, causing all the world’s paper problems.

//or am I not reading the paper towel sermon correctly?

    That’s true, but…

    a) The graphic doesn’t have to mean that just paper is coming from the amazon, it can also just be a reminder that

    b) It’d be hard to recreate the same effect for use where people would see it using sugar or beef (two of the main crops that Brazilian farmers plant after clear cutting the forest)

The WWF demonstrates again how out-of-touch they are to modern environmental issues. Do they seriously think that paper towels are made from trees cut down in the rain forest? Paper towels (and paper products in general) all come from sustainable tree farms now. Hell, look at the price of lumber– it’s too valuable to use for paper towels.

The world’s level of forest has been *increasing* over the last 50 years, not *decreasing*. The only reasons/places where deforestation is actually a problem have more to do with local government policies and weak enforcement than usage of paper products.

What about trees being cut down to make way for sugarcane ethenol production? It gets complicated……….

Well..That’s it. We could always use our hands like the arabs. We have plenty of soap and plenty of water..so there. Leave the trees alone.

why is everyone so pessimistic? it’s an awesome way of advertising and raising awareness. it makes people think.

people are not going to stop using paper towels any time soon, so we may as well guilt them into thinking about the environment when they do. maybe they’ll use less!

i think mr james schend is misinformed. it’s not just about loss of forests – it’s much more complicated than that. it’s the fact that forests are the home to many species, including endangered ones, and forest resources sustain most of the 1.2 billion people in the world who live in extreme poverty.

    look at the big picture.
