Another great charity site is AIDtoCHILDREN.com. It donates money to children in need through World Vision.

diskussed is just the kind of person that should be locked in a room to starve. sitting at your computer writing banal comments, helping no one, all with no need whatsoever of moving your butt... how cute.

I got to level 41 in a minute or less and only donated something like 140 grains of rice. I'm not anyone special, like a teacher or someone who knows latin. I didn't look up the words in a dictionary, and I'm still in school. Is that odd? :S

BTW, I was wondering how many grains it takes to make 1 pound. WikiAnswers says it's 29,000. So as of Nov 19th, they've raised enough money for 45 tons of rice (2000 lbs each). On Nov 18th, 171 million grains translates to almost 3 tons (5,892 pounds). Minor compared with the need, but not insignificant.

If the growth continues at all on the rate it's going, it could turn into a significant amount.

Also, check the Wikipedia entry for more info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeRice

Got over 50 a few times.. Am an English language teacher and found some of the answers to words inaccurate (Can't think of any specific examples at the moment)
Site is addictive.. But also question whether the rice is being donated..Would be delighted to see some official reports.

"FreeRice went online in early October and has now raised 1bn grains of rice.

That is enough rice to feed 50,000 people for one day, the WFP said on Friday."

Got to 49 repeatedly. After that it is a matter of guessing which vague, wrong or just plain silly answer to pick.

It looks like the quiz was compiled by several people, some of whom know the words and their usages, and some of whom dipped randomly into a thesaurus in the time honoured manner of tabliod crossword compilers.

got to 49 ...then with a lot of back-and-forth to 50 -- but it takes more correct answers to go up one level than the number of misses that drop you down. when you finally make it to 50 the words are things like "weeg" and the definitions are "indebtedness; probable;orphanage; distill" -- etc. the lower level words are much easier to move through because many of them are latin/greek in origin and one can puzzle out the derivation...and thus word meaning.

but, apparently it takes 1M grains to eqal 1Kilo of rice...

Helping people in steps of $0.0001... Feeling good... No need whatsoever of moving your butt... How cute.

Go online banking and donate something. €0.1 will do. Sounds silly? In fact that's worth some 1,500 grains of rice.
