Shiloh Pepin of Kennebunkport, Maine was born with Sirenomelia or Mermaid Syndrome. The condition is as rare as conjoined twins and results in the congenital deformity of lower limb fusion. The condition is usually fatal due to abnormal kidney and bladder and development function.

Shiloh is one of only three persons living with the condition. She triumphs over what others would consider a debilitating handicap with a spirit as enchanting as the mythical creature her condition is named after.

Update: Shiloh requires a second kidney transplant and the family is accepting Paypal donations through their official website.

I was so amazed when I saw Shilo's story. What an incredible, beautiful little girl. My heart goes out to her wounderful parents. What strong people. The world is in need of more parents like these. My two year old daughter is absolutley inlove with mermaids. What a beautiful creature to be compared too. God Bless you.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GIRL. YOU ARE SO BRAVE AND SO SMART. YOUR PARENTS HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE SO PROUD OF YOU. SHILOH YOU ARE A DELIGHT AND A TRUE LITTLE PRINCESS (I NOTICED YOUR TIARA!) YOU HAVE TOUCHED MANY PEOPLE WITH YOUR STORY. I WISH YOU ONLY THE VERY BEST LIFE HAS TO OFFER. YOU ARE AMAZING. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

I saw this story on TV last night. My heart was hurting for the family. It was cool to see her swim. One main concern was that Shiloh is very over wight which is causing problems with her getting around and her back.I did not understand the doctor and the parents allowing her to make the decision to separate her legs. She is eight years old, eight year olds do not have the emotional and mental maturity to make this decision. Also, the problem with the weight, it appears that the whole family needs to go on a wieght program then maybe Shiloh will have a positive influence. I wondered why the surgery was not done when she was a baby, as some of the ones that I have read about. I know that she had a kidney problem. As I said my heart goes out to Shiloh, but her family needs to step up and take responsibility.

this is absolutely outrageouis this child is obviously severly deformed there are children healthy both physcally and mentally waiting on kidney transpalnts all over this country and these dodctors have placed this child on the transplant list not once but twice who the hell is running things an overweight fat mentally challenged deformed child and her fat ass parents this child will never live a normal life yet and still these doctors continue to let this expieriment go on enough is enough there are little kids all over america who need kidneys to survive and live a (normal) life. This child will never ever ever ever ever live a normal life and the next kidney they give her will wear out too because her body is not functioning normaly. i know you people will tear me apart for this but i dont give a shit got to texas childrens hospital in houston and the other childrens hospitals all over the world and see how many beautiful little boys and girls are fieing because doctors like this want to get thier name in a text book its not about saving this little girl its about pride!!!!!
