Penny Places

Like most of us artist Mike Leavitt finds pennies on the ground. Unlike most of us he then paints a tiny landscape of the place where he found it on the penny. This is a project he calls Penny Places and you can view the gallery of his work here.

That is very awesome. but I feel bad for him. His eye sight is going to be terrible if he keeps painting such small, intricate things

That’s pretty outstanding. One of my professors from college began to – after having mastered (and I mean mastered) pencil portraiture and several other forms of art – settled into painting candy dishes in supremely tiny formats. Like around the size of postage stamps. The thought is that it involves the viewer individually and uniquely with the canvas (when viewed in person).

    Very unique idea. Kudos.

I absolutely love the metro pieces. I would buy one if it was more in the $35-$50 range…but I can’t afford his asking price now.

Great idea and great work, though.
