yeah, that's germany alright.

those Jahrmarkt or Dom fests are something entirely different from american fairs. they transport some serious rides from town to town, stuff you'd expect at a stationary amusement park here.

here are some other mean rides:

This is a German speaking country. When they counted, they counted to 100, then it spun 8 more times after that....wow...

Me and my buddies call this one the beginner stage, because here in germany one crazy guy has the same machine, but both arms can swing at different speed AND directions, now that is a sickening experience

This reminded me of a story my father in law told us about his friend, who one day made a pretty penny and decided that he'd make his childhood dream come true: he put one of those whirly carvinal ride in his backyard.

One day, he decided to ride his own personal ride but no one was home. No problem, he got on the cab and turned on the ride with a stick. He had done this before many times, except this time, he dropped the stick and was stuck on the ride for something like 5 hours before someone heard his scream and turned the ride off!

They had one just like it at Geauga Lake in Ohio and it was pretty fun but too short of a ride because they didn't let it go that long to get the spinning going! And if you had too many fatties on board you'd be lucky to spin once! looks like they purposely weighted the riders in good positions to get the good spin going.

They have a ride just like that at Six Flags Darien Lake in Western New York, but It never spun around so many times! There is traveling one too that goes around fairs, I rode it at the Erie County Fair one year. The problem is that the seats are NOT designed for anyone tall. I am 6'6" and I had to hunch to get into the harness and then spent most of the ride trying to make sure my crotch did not slam into the large plastic divide that is between your legs. I ended up having bruises all over my shoulders and needed to ice my no-no zone. NOT FUN.

Theres one at Alton Towers in the UK but doesnt spin as much as this and is pretty tame. I burnt my hands on the spot light in front of my seat and then had to hold them up to the water, upside down to cool them off! lol

Um...this is a normal ride at all festivals in Europe. It is a must ride every time you go....the operator can control how the bench rotates and also the can lock it so that is spins on just the arms, with you hanging upside down....it is so much fun....especially at Oktoberfest!

I too was waiting for something horrible to happen. From the title of the post I thought they would topple out or the swing arm would break. I was relieved when everyone was ok.

Ive ridden one of these but I dont remember the ride being that long

In case anyone didn't catch it, that thing spun more than 100 times!

I kept thinking they were gonna hit the guard rails, or someone would fly off!

I've been on one of these in Denver. The spinning really isn't the most painful part of the ride - it's how tight they have to put the harnesses on. They're not adjustable; the machine just slaps it on seriously tighter than possible right over the bladder area so you won't fall out. It hurts so so so bad. Every time we spun around, people (in unison) would scream in pain.

I really liked it as a little kid though.

I was at our state fair a couple of days ago. On selected evenings, the amusement rides are open on a pay-once, ride-all-night plan, instead of the usual ride-by-ticket plan.

My daughters and I have taken to calling it "ride 'til you puke night".

They had a new ride this year. My youngest daughter and I watched to see what it was like, before deciding whether to try it out. After the patrons removed themselves from the seats, one observation decided it for me: The attendant going to get a hose.

Endurance challenge, indeed.
It totally is a torture machine.

I was so sick after riding one of these, I swore to never be in an uncontrollable spin in outer space.

At Knott's Berry Farm there is one that moves just like this, however, there is water being sprayed. Water hits the bottom of the compartment as it spins and as it spins the riders are sprayed in the face with water as well. Its much like this but with the the guarantee of being soaked.

Holy Shit! I was struck by the sheer monotony of the abuse. And it just went on and on and on.
