My father went to a military school for his freshmen year year of college ("The biggest mistake I ever made in my life," says he.) One of the only things he claims to have learned there was amazing shoe polishing. The technique includes setting the polish on fire to melt it and rubbing it down quickly with a wet cloth.

These are actually bad for real shoe leather. They can dry it out and lead to cracks.

If you do a proper job polishing every now and then, which includes applying a bunch of layers of polish, then you can just do a 30-second buff to get rid of scuffs and bring the shine back.

I'm a big fan of the bottle of liquid polish/dye with a sponge tip applicator. It does a great job of covering up all the scuff marks I make with my lazy feet.

It's like having brand new shoes. Divine!

I have a similar product (different brand). I got it for free when I bought my shoes. It does actually seem to work for a while (eventually your shoes get too scuffed for even it's magic sponge powers to help).

I don't have the vaguest idea of how it could work. What's that sponge doing?
