most of you clearly don’t know what you are talking about.i’m absolutly disgusted!!
i’m a mother ofa premature baby and he is fine!!
every child has the right to live and if its not meant to be then god will deside that and not the doctors.
the doctors only do their job and if it wasn’t for them i wouldn’t have my beautifull son now.
so first do your research about the subject before you put your oppinion out there because as there are plenty preemies who survive without any futher probems!

I recently went through the same thing. April 16,2010 I gave birth so a little boy named Michael A Higgs Jr. I was 21 weeks so he was 19 weeks early. There was nothing wrong with my child’s health i just had an incompetent cervix which made me go into labor prematurely. But I did not have a choice to save my child. From the time i went into the hospital they said my child would NOT live and there was NOTHING they could do that he would be too small and under developed. He was 1lbs and 11 1/2 inches he was much bigger then they said he was going to be his breathing was fine! They never had intentions on treating him like any other premature baby, they never cleared his air passages nothing they never even came and checked on us after he was born. And it hurts to know that at 5 months its against the law to have an abortion but if u have a child at 5months they will not help that child survive. Its brings happiness to me to know that there are some places that help people in these situations. This family was very blessed! Because loosing a child is the worst thing u could ever imagine my heart gos out to this family especially baby Kimberly she will make these Dr.s rethink premature births because no matter what size all children deserve to be helped!!

It just shows how cruel and evil this wold is to be able to say such cruel things about a child! She is a child, and if she wasn’t meant to live, there would have been nothing we could of done to change that. Who are we to play God and say a child shouldn’t be allowed to live because they may have a disability? Isn’t this how people justify aborting children? And yet people are born everyday who are considered healthy and end up with chronic illnesses/disabilities later in life, should we just let them die too because it costs too much money or are an inconvenience? You all need to grow up!

hey, we all have our opinions, but like many of the above posters have mentioned, it is difficult to surmise exactly what you would do, e.g I would prefer situation ethics, but in a personal situation this may not be easy. And anyway, what is done is done and we should not be arguing about something that we cannot change.
P.S We should respect opposing opinions even if we do not agree with them. (in my opinion lol)

You know to the people who made all the cruel and heartless comments before … You all should be ashamed of yourselves but people like you have no heart or consciense or else you would have not made those harsh comments about an innocent life. You would feel totally different if it was you or a close family member that was affected by this premature birth. That is the doctors job to try and save INNOCENT wonders of GOD. My family has recently been through this situation and our neice only lived for about 12 hours and was born at 24 weeks. She weighed 1 lb 4.8 oz and was an absolute angel but God had better plans for her that we just couldn’t grasp and HE was the one that decided to take her not people like you!!!! As far as this baby having diabilities for the rest of her life is that really any of your concern no! We all have some sort of disadvantage or diability we encounter in life some more than others but that doesn’t make them less of a person!Oh and some made comments about the state having to pay for one “baby” with expensive needs well the way I look at it I would rather be a tax payer, paying to save a life than support a drug dealers habit while he checks himself in rehab and then as soon as he gets out hits the street to search for a new high!! People before you go making these serious heartless comments put yourself in the parents/familys shoes first!!!

First of all..”IT”, has a name, learn to use it. She is a human being, not a piece of clothing. No matter if a baby is born full term or preemie with health problems or disabilities, everyone has a right to live. And to the people who think abortation is ok…what if your mother aborted you or someone you loved was aborted? There is no 100% guarantee that the babies are going to have problems if they are preemies. Then again, there is no guarantee a baby wont have problems at full term either.

People with disabilities are the sweetest and most loving people you can meet or be around. They have more common courtosy and respect than you rude people would have in your fingernail.

My mom had 3 kids. My brother was 3 weeks early, he weighed 2 pounds 14 ounces and was 13 1/4 inches long, and was born dead. The doctors got his heart beating again. He is now 31 and doing good with no disabilities. She also had 2 daughters,one was 6 pounds 14 ounces and the other 6 pounds 6 ounces. They are now 28 & 25. Out of all 3 of her children, our brother is the healthiest. He now has 3 beautiful kids of his own. So NO, not just cause you are born as a preemie, and so called destened to have problems. does it mean that you are going to have problems. If the doctors woudn’t have stepped in when they did, then we wouldnt have a wonderful brother, sister in law, beauiful neice, and 2 georgous nephews! Thank God my mom wasn’t ignorant and stupid like some of you.

Doctors and nurses ar gifts from God! He gives them the brains and ability to do their work, so we need to give them a lot more credit than we do, considering they help save our lives, our children and the people we love and care about. I pray for each and every one of you. God Bless You All.

First of all…Kimberly is one of the most georgous little girls in the world. If she wasn’t supposed to be here, God would NOT have let her live. I think most of the comments you all are making are very immature, rude, and hurtful. You have absoutly NO right to say anything about her living or dying. How would you feel if your mother wanted to let you die just because there was something wrong with you? As far as you know, your mother could have thought that you would be a slow learner, and told the doctor, just let him go, he’s not worth it. How would you feel then? As far as I am concerned, there is NEVER an excuse to have an abortation. If it comes down to the life of the mother or the child, I believe that child should have the chance to live, they never asked to be brought into this world. Some of the comments that were made said that they should have let her die because it cost to much money, well, if our government can send millions overseas and to other countries, they can help the people here in America. Every human deserves the right to live, no matter the outcome of their life. Most people that do have disabilities are some of the most kind, loving, gentle, and helpful people in the world. Yes, they may need more help than the “normal” person, but take one look at them, and then say its not worth it. If you can honestly say its not worth it…you have some MAJOR problems, and REALLY need to talk to God. I wish you all the best in life, and I wish all you ignornt people see the light. As someone who simply happened across this article as the rest of you did it would be easy for me to sit back and weigh the pros and cons of whether or not this baby should have been kept alive, and whether or not millions of dollars should have been spent on trying to keep this baby alive when they could have been spent to help thousands of sick, hungry or dying people.
However, I would be willing to bet a substantial amount that there are not very many of you who, if this were your baby and you were faced with the same situation, would not want to do everything possible to save your child’s life.
Although I tend to side with those who say that perhaps mother nature never intended for this baby to survive and that we should not have interfered with natural selection, I have no idea what I would have done in the parent’s situation, and have no call to judge them if I have never been in that situation. I would like to think that maybe I could have made the best decision for all concerned, but being a Mom I rather suspect that my natural instincts would have been to fight for my child’s life at all costs.
Judge the decisions of the medical personell if you will, but do not judge the parents until you can say that you personally have been in the same situation and were able to make the decision to withhold life saving treatment.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU SHOULD SIT BACK AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU SAID..I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD SAY THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE SAVED A BABIES LIFE. WHAT IF THAT HAD BEEN YOU OR YOUR CHILD? YOU WOULD HAVE WANTED TO LIVE RIGHT? I WOULD MUCH RATHER MY CHILD LIVE AND HAVE A DISABILITY THAN HAVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT I DID WHEN I LOST HER AND I STILL GRIEVE OVER HER EVERYDAY. Being born premature does not always deem that a child will live with disabilities, nor does being born full term deem that you will not. Nor does being diasbled mean that life is miserable and meaningless….my severely disabled son (who was born full term and suffered a brain injury due to a medical mistake) has taught me more about life than I could possibly imagined, he is also THE HAPPIEST child I have ever seen. When he was in the highest level of intensive care after his birth, the baby in the isolette next to him was the smallest baby in the NICU at just barely a pound, the amazing thing though was that this child never needed any life support, she was perfect in everyway and is now a happy healthy 7 year old….what if doctors said she was too smal to save? Who are we to judge, and who are we to say what, and who deserves life. Mys son is completely aware of his different abilities, or lack there of, and if he had had the choice, it would not be different, he would choose to live….perhaps the world would be a better place if more people would focus on the possitive rather than the negative.

hi i dont mean to be rude and iv only read a few comentsbut i take it none of you have had a premature birth or even a still born well i have iv had 3 still borns due to premature birht all at 20 weeks and i would have giving anything in the world for my babys to have been alive even if its only for a few hours and yes i would be willing to deal with the problems my babys might have had due to coming early but i didnt get that chance im now preg for my 4th and is 18 weeks so do u know how scary it is knowing your baby will die and there is nothing you or the docs can do

Honestly, you people with your comments about how worthless and expensive it is to save the life of a preemie baby is absolutely pathetic.
I am the parent of a preemie baby born 23 weeks early, and just over 1 lb.
He is the joy of my life. He is now 14 and smarter than most kids I know!!
He loves electronics, PS3, riding his bike, skate boarding and has such a zest for life it’s unbelievable.
We can spend billions on war, overpaid celebrities and ball players, driving in our status symbol vehicles, sporting our designer bags and clothes, but these precious lives are not worth it?
Having this child has humbled me and made me appreciate how precious life can be and I have truly become a better person for it.
Too bad the same can’t be said for you!!!!
