Fall is the season of Aurora Borealis. Porjus, Sweden is the perfect place to watch the Northern Lights, or follow them via internet.

Porjus is a village in Swedish Lapland, the northern part of Sweden. This is the place where Northern Lights are most frequently seen and are at their best. With just a little more than 400 inhabitants, Porjus is a small village. Being small like that, there is little artificial light. So it gets dark, very dark. The ideal place for experiencing one of the most impressive, natural light spectacles on earth: Northern Lights! Just outside your apartment door, in the heart of Lapland…..

I think Bill Bryson may have written about this town in "Neither Here nor There," a lovely book, even if it turns out that I am completely making up the fact that he wrote about the town in this post.

Home, sweet home... I lived the first two years of my life (1980-1982) in that house, the old railway station which is now an exciting photo gallery. Porjus is well worth a visit, not just for the arctic light but also for the amazing nature in the summer!
