    It’s a common misconception that the US has 52 states and 52 stars in the flag. I’ve no idea where it came from, but a lot of people think that in the UK.

    Duh, it’s obvious: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 + 2 = 52

    Well, i couldn’t tell you anywhere near how many counties england has, nor could the vast majority of americans, so I’ll say they’re probably a little ahead of us. why expect them to know all of our states?

    I thought it was common knowledge, even in Europe, that the US has 50 states (I’m from Denmark)… No I cannot name them all, but I know there are 50.. And I’m able to count the 50 stars on the flag :-P

    When I was about five years old, I used to think that the U.S. had 52 states (50 continental states plus Alaska and Hawaii).
