Photographic Proof: Husbands of the ’50s DID do the Dishes!

Posted by Alex in Pictures on September 9, 2007 at 1:04 pm

From the Homemaker’s Encyclopedia 1954, lovingly compiled by RetroLife, comes this picture of a prototypical husband of the 50’s (notice the ever-present pipe) doing the dishes!

Notice he is “helping” with the dishes, not “doing” the dishes. I bet he expects a medal or something for that.

The language of the period, I know. It also gripes me when a daddy is supervising his own children and people say he is “babysitting.”
