Video: Hurdler slips, goes face first into hurdle

Posted by jstruan in Everything Else, Sports, Video Clips on August 28, 2007 at 7:20 am

As The Sun delicately puts it, “LUCKLESS Guenther Weidlinger puts the CHUMP into the World Athletics Championships yesterday as he careers head-first into a hurdle.”

Via With Leather, which has stills. (With Leather features photos of scantily clad women.)

*Update: Commenter “Martha Allen is fat” points out that the race being run in the video is a steeplechase, and says that the barrier is called a “steeple,” not a “hurdle.” Wikipedia offers this information about steeplechase barriers (which is clearly correct, as demonstrated in the video): “Unlike those used in hurdling, steeplechase barriers do not fall over if hit.”

Nowadays - every mistake you make can haunt for years and years in this Web 2.0 world.

Miss USA slipping during the Miss Universe Pageant, is now one of the all time top YouTube videos

Yeah I agree with you SEO, you really have to watch what you do on camera now a days.

Agreed SEO… just as I’ll never foget Carl Lewis attempting to sing the national anthem back in ‘93.

Espn forced YouTube to remove it, but you can still see part of it here:

Reminds me of Vinko Bogataj of “The thrill of victory … and the agony of defeat!” fame.

I don’t expect anything else from a toilet-grade “newspaper” like the Sun, it’s rather unfair to label him a CHUMP. It wasn’t deliberate, and he must have hurt himself quite a lot. Made me wince.

I hate to be the nerd but that’s a steeple in the steeplechase event. (Not a hurdle)

Yes, and Wikipedia forgot to mention the higher incidence of steeplechase runners with high-pitched voices compared to hurdle runners.
