Yogic Flying

Posted by Alex in Sports, Video Clips on August 14, 2007 at 4:29 am

A while ago, in my tongue-in-cheek response to the Amazing Criss Angel Levitation post, I posted a bit about the Amazing Levitation of the Cult Leader and Terrorist Shoko Asahara (where he claimed he can levitate by means of "Yogic Flying").

Now, behold – you can see the Yogic Flying in its full majesty: hit play or go to Link [Google Video]

There is a trick... there must be. Otherwise I can't imagine how so many people would be able to do the whole scene without craking up and miss a step in a fit of laughter.

Good luck with your knees a few years later. I guess just before surgery when the meds kick in you'll be flying though...

    Ah. Yogic flying...

I haven't heard about that since the Natural Law Party of Canada advocated it back in the 90s.

    No. Seriously.

LOL. There isn't one single girl in that group. No girl would be dumb enough to do that.

not sooo special, I do yoga for many years, I can do this too, and it has nothing to do with supernatural stuff, just with practicing for a while, no need for the knees when you can sit in a lotus..

I hope they're having lots of fun, because that's pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've every seen.

It's hardly what I'd call progress, I've been able to cover ground faster than this from the age of 2... I stood up.

    That's jumping that is.

It's also connected to that whole 'if frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their ass when they jump...' thing...

    Flying?
    My arse...

Folks - suspending disbilief for a while, you need to notice:
    (a) doing this actively in a group in this coordinated fashion is next to impossible - unless they practice this for years!
    (b) none of them seem to be exerting themselves to jump - look at their posture at the time of take off
    (c) the jump is quite high - so attempting to do this purely physically and for such a distance would be really exhausting. They don't look tired to me.
    (d) TM guys themselves say that "hopping" is stage 1 -stage 2 and 3 are what they are after. Of which a video might be much more interesting.
    (e) I have experienced uncontrollable surges of energy when you do some yoga practices - none of them involved jumping, but I can imagine if the same energy gets coordinated directionally, it could make you jump!
So yes - it does look incredible and pointless, but I wouldn't write it off simply because I have never experienced it myself. Though the bullshit quote is hilarious :) )
