Tar Teddy Bear

By Alex in Animals & Pets on Aug 8, 2007 at 2:35 pm

What do you get when you dip a perfectly cuddly Teddy Bear into a pit of tar?

Artist Mattia Biagi has the answer – it is art. This one to the left is titled Tarorsetto.

That’s not art. That’s just dumb. If I crap on my teddy bear, is that art, too?

It’s art if you can get the government to pay for it!

i don’t mind the idea of dunking a banal object into tar, but this guy’s web site… i mean, i sometimes like process work like this, but this is an effing art gimmick with this fellow. “what else can i dunk in tar?!?!” (also, look at the picture of himself on the site too. give me a break). anyways… yes, i enojy the look of the bear. i also enjoyed Kathyrn Spence’s sad, droopy mud bears from back around 2000 too, or Roxy Paine’s dunked-over-and-over again paintings. but i think his guy’s 15 minutes are up.

What would it be like if the “arteest” would dunk some limb of his into tar? Now that would be art!

I’m afraid I’ve got to agree with matt. This guy is a rebel without a cause, not to mention an artist without expression or (at the very least) articulacy.
