80 Blocks from Tiffany's

This has been making the rounds this week, including at BoingBoing. It’s a documentary from 1979 about street life in the South Bronx – mostly focused on gangs. It’s been broken into eight appx. 8.5 minute clips that are clearly numbered. The first clip is embedded above. If you’re interested in American urban history this film shouldn’t be missed. It’s a great glimpse at New York ghetto life just before hip-hop hit the scene. I was particularly taken with the block party that appears towards the end of segment 7 of 8. YouTube.
